Hi guys

When i try to burn a CD in windows xp, it makes my computer go all jerky and renders me doing anything else absolutely useless, and it also appears to burn at around 2x. I have checked the controllers and all of them in device manager either say 'Ultra DMA Mode (number)' or Not Applicable.

My system spec is:

P4 3.6ghz
1gb DDR400 Dual Channel
2x 200gb S-ATA hdd's
ASUS x600XT gfx card

Please help, im absolutely stumped!

My system also goes bonkers when writing a CD, but I don't have any problems with the speed.

You haven't got any virtual cdrom stuff installed have you?

hdd to cd

it doesnt matter if i burn either way, it still does it (hdd to cd or cd to cd)
i used to have problems with it being in PIO mode on my old comp, but i checked that.

Are we allowed to know what the CD-RW drive is? :)
Is a particular process sucking all the CPU while writing?

Hmmn. If you start up taskmanager before writing a disk, and get it to sort by CPU usage (click CPU column heading ;)), you should have some chance to see what's hogging the CPU (if anything)... good luck!
