Campaign to Reduce UK Petrol Prices - a rip-off at 80p a Litre

We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer.
Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent,
united action.

Somone offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a; lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

Action:
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons (75p)Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso.

Good idea and I buy Optimax(Shell) anyways so its no skin off my nose. The problem is though Laz, us Brits don't like to help ourselves we would rather just sit back and moan.

I will forward that email to 10 people but it won't make a scrap of difference.

This country is wank imo.

I am getting seriously close to the point were I go live in another country.
We are taxed beyond belief in this country.
I know other countries have tax, but nothing close to the level we have to put up with.

Two prime examples would be Cigs, £3.00 of the £4.50 price tag is tax.
Petrol, I believe thats 86% tax?

Before anyone says don't smoke and use the train, fuck off thx.

Hmm... As a citizen of the third largest oil exporter in the world. Thanks for the moneh! Muahaha!

Seriously, we're already producing at max capacity so we can't do much more to help you get better prices. Its nations who hold back to sell more expensive thats to blame. So don't invade us... Please...? Invade Saudi Arabia instead, you guys seem to like Arab oil! :p

A mate of mine went to work in holland not realising that the "lower" rate tax is 42% or something?

He says "great transport!" but he'd rather be paying 20% tax and have a crap bus service.

Speaking of tax. With my National Insurance payments and income tax I am losing 25% of my yearly income. Does that sound at all right?

there are certain things that are good. we're not as bad as danmark. danmark is nice and clean, holland has reasonably good social stuff, education and healthcare and is reasonably clean (in some spots). england is a -no offence- shitehole unless you manage to live out in the country somewhere for what I've seen of it.

tbh I'd like to go to Oz or Kiwiland. my mate's there atm and he tells me it's great. :(

I loved Australia, couldn't work out why anyone would want to leave, but as every Australian I met pointed out, Australia is great when you're paid English wages, it ain't that great when you're paid Australian wages (usually half/third of the equivalent job in the UK), which is why half the people living on my street are Australian or New Zealanders...

Didn't look a bad plan till the chain letter blatancy at the bottom.

I wonder why not boycott Shell too? They are after all mahoosive. Also, I would guess that Tescos, Safeway etc, don't have their own refinerys either, so no doubt the big few would still be getting the bucks.

I'm just a skeptic really I suppose, but in this case, whilst the Government is somewhat to blame for the tax, it is the A-rabs who are to blame for the rising cost of a barrel of crude, not so much the guys running the forecourts.

Believe me, I sell 208ltr barrels of oil to garages, and our margins are getting squeezed badly, just cos of the price of crude. You want a solution? Invade more OPEC members and get our own grubby little hands on the stuff as it comes out of the ground.

Oooh btw next big thing, the Chinese are buying all the steel at the moment, just cast your eye over your desk and look at how many things have steel in them. Prepare to have to spend lots more, on pretty much everything.

I remember getting into flames in threads of the exact same subject on bw ....... but hey, since when did that stop me ;) .......

There are wwwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too many cars on the road. Too many people think the solution is bigger and more roads ...... it's not, it's about getting people out of their cars and off the roads. The trouble is, driving a car is like eating fast food .... it aint good for you, but it's convenient. The only way to stop people jumping in their cars therefore is to tax 'em till it hurts. I'll carry on buying petrol and driving the car now and then when the bicycle wont do, until I can't afford it any more, then I'll have to stop using it. It's the same with fags tbh - it's bad for you and others around ya and it should therefore be taxed till you can't afford it. I felt the same way 9 months ago when I smoked myself. Same again ... i'll buy it till I can't afford it, then I'll stop. Simple as.

Accept it imo. It's a bad thing, expect the government to 'tax it out of you'.

No... provide investment in the public transport infrastructure making it a viable and attractive alternative, and then tax 'til it hurts. It hurts now, and it ain't working because people know that trains and buses suck donkey balls in this country.
