This could work. I think a lot of us here have a rose-tinted view of oldschool DAoC. I suspect that the way we remember it doesn't accurately represent how it actually was.

It needs PvE. DAoC PvE was one of the cornerstones to making this game what it is. If not, you end up with a horrid mess like GW2.

The problem is the funding he needs is absolutely insane he needs 5million minimum but realistically he needs 10million to get it off the ground.

His studio has 13 staff members so that will need to jump into the hundreds, basically folks its looking like 3 years before its released if at all.

I don't see it making it past kickstarter, with the no PVE thing as well that erases a huge chunk of any player base.

Lets just hope that one of those hardcore players still playing DAOC is a millionaire and wants his wildest dreams to come true.

I reckon 10mill is a realistic target, I really do.. Kickstarter will attract all sorts of people, depending what the benefits are, I suppose.

They are not asking for 10m USD from kickstarter. From the Q&A's it seems like they have some other investors aswell, but not until they've probed the terrain with kickstarter.

I guess 1-2m USD from kickstarter.

I think it's a little naive to assume the failings of WAR were all Jacob's fault.

WAR was doomed when EA got its hands on it and jacobs and his team "lost control"... if anything, it was THAT descision that led to its ultimate "failure" IMO, one i am sure he regrets.

This is posted above, but i think this statement...

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/926/feature/7103/Camelot-Unchained-A-New-Beginning.html

Is heartfelt, and very honest.

I for one am VERY exited about this project.

I don't blame him for everything but the design was wrong from the start with only 2 sides. Bear in mind also it was Jacobs running the show and ultimately he must take responsibility for the things that happened on his watch. Such as selling out to EA. Also, the quality of game code in WAR was abysmal.

So, no. Until I see proof positive that he isn't making a turkey and hoping to cash in on the fanbase from DAoC I'm not inclined to cut him much slack in this regard. I'm more than happy to be proved wrong. But that proof can only come if this game makes it to launch.

Aye, not to mention that Warhammer had a shitty low budget compared to most games of the time. I still think Mark Jacobs is making a huge mistake by assuming the community don't want PvE tho, that alone is going to drastically reduce the player base.

I think he fucked up, he knew he fucked up, he wanted out, if you read the thing I think Urgat posted, he basically says were fucking up, my mum was dying etc, I think he needed to bail, and EA opted him a good package

lol @ all the people masturbating furiously over some teaser videos. way to get burned by it when it comes out, wait and see before you start frothing at the mouth

the 2sides versus 3 sides thing as far as i understand, wasnt their call. Games Workshop changed Warhammer Fantasy rule version before they was released, and it became an "order vs disorder" rather than empire vs skaven vs chaos vs dwarves vs blah blah
so it wasnt really their fault

the engine was the new version of the DAoC one wasnt it ? its not their own engine so bad choice possibly but u cant have everything
and selling out to EA, meh, it was a shit thing to do , but if you were offered £132048290430 to offload something youve been working on for 10 years to get a change of scene ? i can see why

I played quite late when the Skaven came out, that was good, I loved playing the Gutter Runner.

Hmm got a reply off Mark Jacobs when I was telling him I thought the decision to drop PvE was a huge mistake - response I got was

"I agree with you but given the time/budget, I'd rather focus on making one thing great RvR and, as I've said in interviews, only serve one master. FYI, I'll try to come up with some fun stuff that has nothing to do with PvE to fill the "I'm tired of RvR" time. Thanks for your interest and I hope support for our project."

I'd hardly call that busting his balls tbh, i'd call that concern.. after all its the community that is going to fund the project, we have a right to be concerned.
