Camcorder? Is it a DV cam Trem? Can you connect via Firewire or USB2?

If you can, you can use some software called DVD Santa to download the film, convert it to DVD and then burn it. The trial version is a full product, but leaves a TRIAL VERSION banner in the black strip of a pillar-box screen, only for a few minutes mind.

if its got firewire (youll need a mini firewire to normal connector) and you have xp - thats all you need. XP should be DV compliant and allow the rip and edit. May not be superb quality tho. For quality, go for the free trial of TMPGenc plus via google.

In fairness, the app in XP is shite, not bad for editing, but really slow for encoding and burning etc.

I also find TMPGenc to be really slow, although its a very good app. DVD Santa is fast and efficient but doesnt allow editing. (theres always a downside to everything.)

Have you got any analogue video in devices (eg: ATI all-in-wonder card)? If so then as long as you have drivers for it all should work as above, otherwise you need extra hardware - I use a Belkin USB2 framegrabber thingy (cost me ~50 quid from http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/cablesconnectorsandadaptors/productView.htm?quicklinx=2N58), nice and easy to install, gives reliable captures on unfragmented HD :)
