Sorry to disagree but while I agree there was no malice intended on the creation of the guild the fact remains its name is something players would rather not see on an English language server.

Only today the IRA are in the news again : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/5405942.stm : and even someone as grammatical as the BBC does not include the full stops.

me and amidlin will make further envestigation about this matter. We will check all guild members for any possible connectivity organization to I.R.A irl, in order to do soo detective kindrid and private eye Sherlok amidlin will requaire you to provide all personal information about those suspects .. and Amidlin needs to get that Dropy acent to be cool ;o

There were a number of reasons why we didn't rename the guild.
One of the things we look at in cases like this is intent. If the people who created the guild where choosing a name that they knew was likely to offend then it makes the decision much more clear cut. In this case there was no intent. The guild is an Italian guild, with Italian players, an Italian MOTD. There was no way that they were alluding to terrorist organisations when they created the name.

if they would have named it <Ira> i could agree with you, but in big letter ofc they thought of the terror organisation, im sure not with bad thoughts just bec they liked the play of words.
but this is insulting for irish people whos country gets terrorized by the IRA since a long time.
this is not a little thing either, comparing it to someone rude-spamming just shows a huge lack of taste.

I wasn't comparing the guild name to emote spamming, I was using it as an example to show why we don't usually rename guilds or characters who are on the borderline. I fully appreciate that real life terrorism is more distressing than someone being childish in a computer game.

Secondly, with or without intent, we look at each name on a case by case basis and decide whether on the balance of everything it needs to be renamed. Some names are easy decisions - those involving swear words, racial insults, illegal drugs etc. Others are a judgement call and where possible we avoid renaming unless there is a very good reason to do so. In this case IRA means wrath or anger in Italian, there are many foreign guild names on English servers and they are subject to the same naming rules as English names, whether your name is in Latin, Greek, Finnish or whatever, we expect you to choose a name appropriate to the game atmosphere. a Guild called Wrath is appropriate. If the guild had been called I.R.A. or Sinnfein or Irish Republican Army then it would of course have been renamed as there is no ambiguity and no room for interpretation.

Gah such a sucky reason for such a good player as urself should leave, i personaly wouldn't of asked a GM about this but would of simply Chained the mofo's. but let em know why they are getting chained and eventualy they will get anoyed enough to leave <ira> or remake with a more suitable guild name. tbh i can't see why the italians can't rename there guild <Anger & Wrath> spelled in italian, unless they intend to be offence with <IRA> !!
