Whenever I get mezzed, I use strafe and run forwards... but thats mainly 'cos i want to get the hell out of there as soon as my mezz breaks.... didn't know it did this....

if I can remember, i'll try play fair and not strafe

Think what you guys ought to realise is that Roalith is now a member of Kemor's Eyes and Ears team and as such will be here to try to give information out to you about matters of cheating and GOA's policy where he can. He says GOA are investigating reports of this as an exploit and hopefully he'll let us know what they say about it.

Dook: If you reckon Mythic have given the the ok then back that up with a link or quote please.

ShiShi: Grab a screen shot (ideal but not essential) and send the names, time, date, server and location to GOA via RightNow asking them to check it out. They may be able to get more information to check this if you give them a concrete example.

I'd actually say that whether it is classified as an exploit or not by Mythic or GoA, it IS still pretty lame and not really how things were designed to work.

Try reading the VN Boards (namely the Devs Round Table). Mythic never say something is or isn't a bug until it is fixed. Until then it's 'working as intended'.

Many threads about it, they basically say it's working as intended. Since you have to 'subscribe' to use the search function I'd rather not trawl through finding a quote.

Infact, if GOA are going to suddenly up and decide to call it cheating they (or their E&E's) should find something saying it IS a bug.

If a quote can't be found then any action taken against people strafing while CC'd would be unfounded, being as it hasn't been deemed an exploit as such.

As Roalith and Jup have both said, it is being investigated by GOA.

It is NOT working as intended, as it is infact caused by specific instructions from the client machine to the server.

Same thing as speed hacks: it was possible to set your system up to fool the server into thinking you are moving faster than you should be able to. There was a VERY big case of this at the start of the retail release (about a year ago) where a player in Alb/Excal was able to actually move from Avalon Marsh to Mithra in under 5 minutes by running.

Now, under the thinking 'it is working as intended until it is fixed' that was perfectly acceptable. But was still seen by GOA as bug abuse.

Put another way:

When you are standing beside someone with a big sword drawn, and the other person is under a form of CC (mezz, stun, root etc.) and you are on /stick then it is intended that you should be able to attack that person. Whether you hit them depends on things like AF, Evade, Parry, Block, or some form of CC on yourself.

But it is NOT intended that you should get the message 'target is not in view' or 'target is too far away' when you are on /stick to them in an open space and they are mezzed.

Yes, there are far too many people using the above combination of key presses to their advantage, and it is an issue that really needs sorted out.

Final note: it is lame, is seen as known bug abuse by the majority of players, and is being investigated by GOA. Going by their previous responses to these sort of issues, I would say some people could end up with suspended accounts.

Until Mythic pipes up and says something about it GOA can't deem it bug abuse. Sure, GOA run things over this side but Mythic make the game and Mythic are the ones who should have the final say IMO.

If people are to be banned for this then they would have to ban a huge number of people who not only do this, but also other things related to lag.

I think Dook's point is that fixing the game is the only way to remove this problem. You can ban and ban and ban forever but people will keep doing it.

From my own point of view, I see PL'ing and buffbot use as cheating. It irritates me, but, I'm not going to throw blankie out of the pram and make a fuss.. theres nothing I can do about it. If some action is taken to remove it from the game, then great. If not, then.. /shrug.

Sure, we pay to play, but, we can always stop.

Your ignorance is absolutely astounding! Yes, you DO need Mr Mythic to publically announce whether it's cheating or not because until they say it is or it isn't, it's neither, and therefore unpunishable.

Contacting GOA about a bug is like contacting your electric company because your lightbulb burned out.

I've seen this brought up before on VN, and as afaik, there is little they can do on latency issues, as ghosting is needed to allow fluent movement lines during high latency.

If you get rid of ghosting, prepare for people to start teleporting around your screen, and I'm sure you'd just make a whine thread about that.

It's a limitation of the game, but certainly not bannable, and it is in fact working as intended

hmmm is it a bug? I press strafe/forward/backward like mad waiting for mezz to wear off, since the first sign its worn off is when you move. Doesn't move on my screen until mezz has worn off, does it do that on yours, or is there a special way of doing it?

Stopping people from being able to turn when mezzed was only recently introduced, does that mean anyone who used to turn to try and reduce chance of positional styles before the bugfix was put in needs to be banned for cheating too? Cos thats 99% of GOA's subs gone.

they already have, see my example I have no doubt though that GOA will also outlaw the use of strafing when mezzed if Mythic does (but tbh it requires a recoding of the processes involved when being mezzed and strafing etc.) just telling people not to do it won't be enough, I get some pretty horrid GFXlag at times in SI, so if I was sidestepping when being mezzed I would continue to do so as I didn´t know I was mezzed ( screen frezzes but char still reacts to key presses
