though i acknowledge how much effort is put into the technicality and everything, learning to and playing like this is simply time invested. real song writing takes proper talent, this is just someone that plays a lot of guitar.

I have no idea what you mean, they are his songs and good ones at that

You have described him copying someone else which isn't the case

i didn't at all, i just don't see 20 minute solos as songs. you can argue the point from an objective stand-point of 'how do you define a song' obviously, but personally i don't see them as songs just some dude wanking his guitar. unbelievably boring.

a truly great guitarist who actually writes songs:

exactly my take on things. A lot of people on here rate how good a guitarist is, on how fast he can play a scale.

Buckethead is very sloppy live, much like Slash was. He just doesn't compare to some of the true rock guitar greats.

every says "I'd be most grateful". What are you actually going to do ? Will you clean my house ? Will you clean the bird-shit off my car (bastard bird !). Will you go to the shops and buy me a pair of laces for my boots ?

how? how can you think this? it requires just as much as learning many other things. he's an amazing guitarist. "creating" a song, musically, is just as much as "creating" a song, lyrically.
how do you think a musician starts a number... By writing the lyrics or writing the tunes?

Theory is theory, regardless of how fast or slow you play a guitar. Some people have more musical intrests to instrumental music I.E. guitar ballads, acoustic or rock but either way he is a very tallented guitarist.

theory first, lyrics later.

why do you and huntingtons think i'm talking about having vocals on the track? neither of you are grasping my point at all, what i am saying is anyone could do what this guy does if they played guitar for long periods every day over 10 years or whatever. to me, true talent is a lot more natural - interesting ideas, creativity. this isn't creative, it's robotic.

edit: the other thing that really gripes me about this sort of thing is the total fixation of the 'artist' with their own technial ability. this kind of music - if you wish to call it that - to me is basically someone standing on a stage screaming LOOK AT ME, I'M SO FUCKING GOOD AT GUITAR WEOEOEOEOEOE. couldn't possibly be less interresting.

they could learn to do what he does because its been done. but he wrote these pieces himself, which people practicing every day 10 hours wont nescessarily will be able to. Just as you can learn to play the guitar you can learn to write lyrics.
the part about being an ego-tripping guitarist. you could say the same about a singer. WOOOO LOOK AT ME, IM SOO FUCKING GOOD AT WRITING LYRICS!

what's with the fixiation on lyrics? i have never at any point been talking about lyrics/singing. you really obviously don't understand my point, oh well.

i think i know what you mean. at first i thought you were talking about lyrics, then i wasnt sure. Anyway. Creating a solo can be just playing scales (although im no guitarist im pretty sure theres more to it).
To me it seems like you're not acknowledging his talent as an "artist" becaus his music bores you and seems arrogant in your eyes.
