Surely there must be something u poor fooks can do about this crap from BT?

If NTL pissed me around like this - I would stop the direct debit due to failure of supply.

As they market the product as perfect for gamers - this is a false statement and they are breaching advertising standards.

By the sounds of it a high percentage of DSL users are pissed off at the moment - if its due to server OS upgrades - I would have thought Cable gamers would have been hit too - we havent (not by the feedback from my thread anyway)

I dont care if I have a 12 month contract - they are breaching the contract as your pings are knackered - this is why you bought in the first place - BT are defaulting the service.:puke:

This is the excuse I got from BT:

BTopenworld Support

Dear Mr Murphy,

Thank you for providing the trace routes and outlining the problems you are experiencing via your BTopenworld connection.

Firstly please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your e-mail. We normally aim to respond within 24 hours however we have had a very large influx of e-mail which has caused the delay.

We are aware that a number of customers are being affected by Ping Spikes and Packet Loss caused by the Home Gateway. We have previously addressed this issue on the 34Mb Home Gateways that were the only type that were available when the ADSL service was launched.

However a new product was launched earlier in the year that increased this capacity to 155Mb and we are currently working on a programme to upgrade the 34Mb Home Gateways to 155Mb ones. The architecture of the 155Mb Home Gateway is significantly different to that of the 34Mb one, and an issue has been identified which is causing the packet loss and ping spiking. It is believed that the problem is caused by a higher than anticipated ‘churn’ of users on the Home Gateway that in turn is causing a higher processor load.

The first stage to improving this issue is to upgrade the Operating System on the Home Gateway router which incorporates enhanced functionality to overcome the issue of ‘churn’ which should in turn lower the loading of the Home Gateway.

This new Operating System is in place already on the 34Mb Home Gateways and is currently undergoing final testing with our network supplier on the 155Mb Home Gateways prior to deployment on our live system. We anticipate that the testing should be completed in the next couple of weeks and we will be deploying the new Operating System shortly after that.

Once the new Operating System has been deployed we will continue to monitor the performance of the Home Gateway to ensure that the problem has been resolved or investigate other options further.

I do hope this is of some assistance to you.

If you have any further problems or enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us on the following:

Thank you once again for your valued enquiry.

Well you have it in WRITING THEY HAVE A PROBLEM and are therefore delivering substandard service - they say it will be several weeks for the service to be brought to the level they actually sold it in the first place.

Ask them as you now have factual evidence from BT for a refund until the service is at the level your contract said you were buying.

A few hours or a day is expected but you DSL users have had this shit for weeks and it looks to continue for weeks.

GET SOME CASH BACK

To BTopenworld people
Is your ping in the mourning on a weekday at what you expect like 30-60 or is it above what you expect.
On a weekend is your ping a piece of crap all day..
This has been like this for a week and half for me..
Just want to know if it's me or everyone else.
A couple of weeks it says why....

Ok so my advice to BTO customers is the same as what I have done:

I have mailed the email and a letter of complaint and a complete traceroute report to BTO. I refuse to pay them a penny until they sort their problems out and in the meantime I am looking to convert to cable.

Well its sort of better now, im getting pings of 50-90, which is ok I suppose, but I wil have to wait and see if the problem gets worse later into the night. I rekon it happens after 6pm, this is when the internet becomes free to BT users.

Well they seemed to have sorted something out last night, as I saw charliealpha had a nice steady ping during all his games.

A lot of others have reported an improvement too, unfortunately I wasn't one of them :( with pings swinging between 35-235 and massive packetloss. I never thought I'd see 200 ping again

I was playing a clan game last night, 4v4 TDM.. we'd just made a nice 20 frag come back to be 4 frags behind 1 minute before the timelimit.. and what happend ?? THE DEMON AFFECT!

I timed out and we finished off 2 frags behind at the end :(

I rang demon and asked why my connection was dead..

Tech support: Were sorry one of our main routers just stopped working and as of yet have no idea why, engineers have been called out to look at it we'll let you know when its fixed etc.

Well it came back on an hour later...

Its now about 14 hours since it died and ive still not been told it works :)

yeah, I had marked improvements last night, still a shed load of packet loss but the pings were fairly steady.
