dude, a mate of mine did his own phone which was much worse (really, it was shattered over the entire area). he womaned up and did it himself, with a new screen off the ineterpipes for 35 euros. you're a handy bunny, I'm sure you can swing it.

I have watched a vid on YouTube, and yes it does look straight forward, i'm more concerned about me vioding the warranty. If it was over a year old, then i wouldn't care, and i would do it myself, but its less than 3 months old.

I wish i never got the bloody thing tbh, whats the point of having a phone you have to wrap up in cotton wool.

I dont use it to its full potential, i make calls on it and check my mail, i did that on my old SE

So you aren't even going to attempt to get it swapped for free? Poor

It's meant to be shatter proof, it's shattered. I've seen worse accepted by apple. Stick to a story and hope for a easy going "genius".

It's definitely worth a go.

A director where I work dropped his iPad2 within days of getting it. Smashed the screen to buggery.

He took it to an apple store and the guy behind the counter was like "oh...that's a design fault sir, I'll get it replaced."

Director: "oh no, I dropped it, it was my fault"

genius: "no sir, it's a design fault *wink wink*"

director" "oh!"

So yeah, always worth a try. :)

Well, i took it in to Apple this morning. I had my 'Genius' appointment booked for 10.00 am

As i walked in i was swarmmed by what seemed 20 staff with their 'Hey, hi. how ya doin, welcome to Apple, how may we help you today?' *big cheesy smiles*.

I was checked in and ushered to the 'Genius Bar' where i was helped by 2 staff members, they told me that the screen could not be repaired as its welded to the anntena and outer case (not true as we all know) but i didnt argue, basically they just replace the phone.

The first price i was given by the newbie who was serving me was £139.00, but then the guy with him corrected him and said it had been reduced by £20, so i thought, well £20 extra (been quoted £99 to repair it) to keep the warranty is ok, and i get a new phone. Then when he put it through the till, he said cos the phone is only 3 months old, they will do for £100 all in.

As i put it through the business, i also get the VAT back on that too. So it was about £84, which is cheaper than the other phone shops were quoting me to repair the screen, have my old phone back and be out of warranty.

I nearly spent £400 on a iPad 2 as well, so i left before i was drawn in and brainwashed

I reckon you'd get the same service in an HTC store.

haha my HTC sensation has been with them for 21 days as of today and thats on a 3 month old phone!.

I also can't take the apple staff seriously since watching the big bang. But they do offer excellent service i got a new Mac Book after about 8 minutes telling the guy everything i had tried.

Well, its all sorted now, it was my own fault it got broke, the staff were very heplful and i wasn't served by some 'couldn't give a shit' 17yr old who is just waiting for his break

I walked away happy, and at the end of the day thats what its all about, and i got a new phone which i dont personnaly have to pay for.

They've "fixed" my desire twice so far. I went to sell it the other day (finally), and it wouldn't turn on. It's out of warranty now, going to give them hell and hope for the best.

I sent my Sensation in because the Phone signal is half of its sister phone in the office. And they sent it back once because the WLAN was fine :) This time they denied having it for 10 days and now say they are looking into a software patch despite an identical phone being fine.

The need to sort their shit out we have all but dropped them now in favour of the S2. And i doubt we are the only once loyal customer swapping sides.

Good for you, that's not the point we were making though. HTC are fucking awful at customer service, which was the point.

My Sensation's been fine.

My colleagues is fine too but mine sat next to his with the same network had half the signal. And when we sell phones and plans we offer a single point of return so we take the phone back then send it to HTC and they are costing us because we need to keep multiple spares as the repairs process takes so long.

For my first desire repair they blamed a lack of parts due to problems in the far east for the delay.

Yet they returned the phone having only made software changes.

The only other phone maker with a retail backbone that could offer this service would be Sony? But HTC and others could partner with people like the CarphoneWhorehouse to offer a similar level of service? As it stands no one offers such good service "if" you are close to an Apple Store.
