Brass Eye Special

Not quite sure whether the Brass Eye thing on kiddie-pervs went a bit far. Was quite funny watching the celebs say all that ridiculous bolox and some of the other bits were quite funny but some of went just too far for my taste.

We all know that the public hysteria over peadophilia is used by the government to pass through all it's draconian laws like RIP bill and that the public can be damn dumb about it, like when a peadeatrician was attacked because some people didn't know the difference but I kinda think some of that program was a bit too much :/

Without wanting to get too heavy about this, did you think it was a fair piece of satire or was it treating a serious subject too lightly ?

(wow, not my usual sort of post :))

I'm not sure if it was more "wtf?" than "HOHEOHAOHEOHOHAOHAO ROFL!!11" Some bits of it were a bit... 'shocking' (And i'm a 17 year old at college, not a pensioner or something ;)) albeit as you say, the celebs (Lineker etc.) saying that stuff was amusing :)

Dammit, Wij! I was just about to start a thread on this.

Personally, I was expecting the Brass Eye special to go further. I'm not saying it should have, I just expected it to, given Chris Morris' considerably more disturbing last series, Jam.

Paedophiles were all caricatured as over-the-top dirty, ugly men and for this reason the Special wasn't as offensive as it could have been, if treated with less care and (bizarrely) sensitivity. Chris Morris is a genius and crosses the line every time, yet he knows how far to go and stops just before his show is cancelled.

That said, it did get a bit close to the bone sometimes and if I actually had children of my own I would have viewed this entirely differently.

I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the most (or certainly one of the most) complained about TV half-hours in history.

Thought I'd throw in some 'Morrisisms.' Do with them what you will.

The Day Today

This was a day they would never forget, not even if someone erased their minds with little mind rubbers...

Your eyes smell and your face is the wrong shape.
Blue Jam

And we've just heard that the defence secretary Micheal Portillo carries a sawn off shotgun to constituency meetings, corners children in parks, chews their cheeks and has frequent sexual intercourse with stray animals claiming "As long as it has a backbone, I'll do it!"

My cock went off like a spunky firework.

What are you on about? All his shows get cancelled. Brasseye got cancelled because he called the Director General of C4 a cunt.

Yeah, it's being shown *now*... Brasseye is years old

Had all the brass eye stuff for ages... Chris Morris is a comic genuis. And no, the special tonight did not go to far - it's showing up and mocking the ridiculousness in which the media treat subjects. And it's so fucking silly anyone who can take offense and/or take it seriously should be put down :)

No, m8. Brass Eye was originally supposed to be shown in November 1996. Grade cancelled it following the Grade is a Cunt subliminal message (among other reasons) but it got aired in February 1997.

I'm sounding a bit anal about this...

It went to far.

Programs that take the piss out of celebs are good, but if they have a reason.

i.e this program would myabe have been funny if the celebretries were twats. Problem is people fetured in the program are doing acuall work to stop child abuse, the twat who host it took advantage and made tehm and their work against child abuse look stupid.

I here there is some legal action being taken against the program by some of teh celebraties featured, and rightly so.

Brass eye aint funny any more anyway, micheal jackson has just quit c4, lets hope the new boss dont renew the series.

I think if Chris Morris could read your post he'd be wearing the warm smile that comes from a job well done :)

I'm sorry but it just goes to show how terminally STUPID these celebrities are, and that's one of the great things. Making them believe that HOECS games (giggle) let paedophiles molest children through keyboards and monitors is absolutely hilarious.

It was mildy funny in places, but the topic was dodgy and if i was one of thoose celebs i would be pissed off.

Yes he made a fool of them, but he undermined their work against child abuse. He/or the program makers really are being taken to court over this, so we will see who will be laughing at the end of the day.

I'll still be laughing, because it's fucking funny. And court never stopped Mr Morris before :)

This might interest some of you. It's a mini-article written by Chris Morris on people who complain about TV shows.

:)

I didn't think so...

Was a big fan of On The Hour on Radio 1, then The Day Today and Brass Eye. Didn't rate Blue Jam and Jam really, though they had their moments.

Now that the Brass Eye Special's been on I've been trawling the web for info.

I think I'm done, now.

After having just come from the chat room of www.cookdandbombd.co.uk and the forum pages of Channel 4 this i.e. people not descending into incandescent apoplexy is kinda nice.

I like Chris Morris' stuff, the man is possibly the only decent satirist in the UK and the points he made were, as usual, rather apt. I could go oon and oon but it looks like I'd be preaching to the converted.

However, anyone else think it wasn't as out and out funny as some of the other stuff he's done? I mean the song at the end was pretty awful for a start.

I saw the whole Brasseye series back to back last month on E4, and I think it was the work of a comic genius.

The chat show about good and bad AIDS, and the gay naval officer, were rofl material.

Just read that little article he wrote - quite interesting, if a little brief. And it's also scarily true. :)

I'll be watching it tonight as I missed it last night, and the chance to see the advert quoted "a paedophile, disguised as a school" scene is well worth it.

The media is hypocritical to the extreme, and brass eye clearly plays on this to the very limits of it.

The fact that only this 'special' of brass eye recieved this media coverage shows just how fickle the nation is (admittedly, back in 96 there could've been this same controversy, but I wouldn't remember) - I shouldn't think the paedophile episode is any more insulting to the celebs than the other ones have been (No-one recall him interviewing the minister of something-or-other to do with drugs, and giving him a huge pill saying it was actual size, and was called cake or something?)

Only the dumbest of the dumb would pay attention to it in any serious element.
