I saw this discussion on another thread before, but this weekend it happened to me again.
I had a few turrets around the base which seemed to be working ok, they were picking off the nme before they were spotted, then I came out of my base to find someone on my team (?) destroying them all, and then put their own in the same places!!!
B**tard, I thought. Any way this can be stopped? I just moved to a server with some wiser people on it.

I think I also saw someone try to destroy the turrets and then change to the other team once they were gone !

again, bast**ds.

Well it just pissed me off as the server was actually running smoothly for me and I had to go.

unfortunatley.
i dont see any way of stopping this

when u couldnt destroy your own teams turrets
when team damage was off, it meant that turrets in
stupid places couldnt be moved :(

people who do that are lammas. and sould be kicked/baned.

Unfortunately some people place turrets in, how should I put this... less than optimal positions, fitting 2 turrets where 4 or 5 will go. So if you want to sort this out you have to destroy them to get the correct setup.

If you see a 'tagged' player killing your own turrets that is very probably what he is doing.

Also if a turret is 90% dead its far easier to kill it and replace it with another than to repair it in a fast moving game.

On a recent game on Sanctuary I had a newbie who placed ALL the clamp turrets INSIDE the building, leaving the flag uncovered. He clearly didnt understand why I was removing them (Even though I was typing in the team Chat to explain) & preceded to TK me for the next 5 mins.........

So the MORAL of this story is.. Make sure u know what you are doing when you Turret & dont get upset if someone who knows the 'right' setup re-arranges them as Tribes is a TEAM game and its the TEAM score that counts not your own. Unless of course your nik is MacBeth then you can be as much of a llama as you want :)

Nope some people do this to get better score. I've seen it happen a lot. As I don't give a toss about personal score I just leave the turrets there.

It annoys me though when they walk on your mines so they can place thier own.

Just remember any turret killing lamers that read this post, next time you turn to take out your own turrets, it gives me that extra 1 or 2 seconds I need to either:

A: Grab your flag and do one...

B: Line up my mortar with your head...

The choice is yours :)

well if you get a turret kill you get a point this is appealing to some :mad: peeps.

remove the point you get for a turret kill then peeps cant be assed to replace them just to get a kill and not get a point

Yeah, I don't really understand the rationale behind giving individual points for kills from a turret. Maybe Dynamix will sort it out ( *cough* yeah right :) )

imo this new scoring is shit, they should make the 1 points for grabs goto the player and return caps back to 1 per cap as it was before. This would help balance the offence v defense scores and remove the stupid "Inferno wins by 1 point" scores.

as you can see i totally missed the point of the thread and ranted about flags not turrets....turret points are poop!!

Yeah I agree - remove turret kill frags and get rid of the team-point for flag grab.

Takes sod all skill to ski in and grab a flag with NO hope of escaping alive with it, I'd rather have a draw than that cack.

Yer points for trashing nme turrets is stupid. Its allways better to wreak an nme turret rather than kill it outright as damaged turrets dont as a rule get replaced :)

So forget yer 1 point and aim to win the game :)

I've had some wanker destroy my team's turrets before when they were in perfectly good positions. I asked him wtf he was doing a few times, and, when he didn't reply, initiated a vote to kick him, explaining to the rest of the server why he should be kicked. He lasted all of 15 seconds. The BW servers are usually pretty good for this sort of thing: lots of seasoned players willing to back you up.

As for the scoring issue: if you remove the point for a turret kill, you'll remove an incentive to place turrets. As turrets are primarily for the benefit of the team, I think there SHOULD be some added incentive to place them as well as possible.

I also like the One Team Point for a flag-touch idea. Basically it means that the team that tries to cap the most will probably win in a stalemate situation, even if the other side go all-D and try and lock things up. It discourages boring defensive play imho, which can only be a good thing.

This comes back to something I`ve veen advocating for months now. Individual points should be abolished altogether. They serve absolutely no positive purpose and ahev proven time and time again to be detrimental towards teamplay on pubs. Alas, noone cares, cept for those with large ego`s and selfish attributes that like to be top of the table even if they lose the game. It`s another example of Dynamix not really having their finger on the pulse.

I think it's rather the opposite actually. Whilst the Holy Grail of selfless teamplay and no individual scores is all very well in theory, in practice people want to see how they're doing.

I remember when they enabled TeamScores only in QW:TF and hid the fragscore by default in CS: there was massive public outcry. Dynamix know what the public want, even if what the public wants isn't the right thing!

Why should you need a insentive to place turrets if you need a incentive your not playing for the team but for your own personal score which is where you get peeps destroying turrets to better their score.

mind you........ if the places that u put the turrets are 'dumb ass' then i would agree with the person who shot the shit outta them..

I’ve always felt that team games shouldn’t have individual score.

As for the destroying and replacing turrets, if you see someone doing this, vote to kick them and hopefully they will learn some teamplay.

Better ways to do the scoring system.

If you destroy a turret to place a turret you do not get score from that turret. For someone who's picking a better place for turrets or needs a turret for a good location quick, then it suits them.

ahhh the wonderful world of online gaming.... makes u want to give it all upo and play bots then u get that 1 f00kin class game that changes ur mind for another few weeks... if they got the bots to drive or gun for u i wouldnt play tribes online.. too many wankers, i bet its top on a lan with ur mates though, just a shame im the only puter geek i know :D

All these point lovin gits who don't give a shite about teamplay all sit on denfnce because there is more points to be found there (not saying that people who defend are point lovin people). But they can't play defence properly.

no, no, no... a real Point Nazi (godwin!) would do the following.

1. Wake up, stretch arms and spin and look for nearest INV station.

2. Run to nearst INV loadup and run to the V.Station.

3. Blow anyone taking more then .2 of second to pick a ship off the pad and grab a Shrike. Someone blocking the pad? They are wasting your points! Shoot them off and grab that shrike.

4. Head out to the enemy base, Ditch the Shrike and blow the Gen (got points), maybe kill some suckers (more points)

5. Grab the flag and run for home. Cap it (points!)

6. Grab some turrets and blow away any you see and replace them. Claim your "Fixing them".

7. repeat from step 2.

as ive said B4 there is a simple way to get around this remove points for getting a turret kill, some ppl like their own personal score and if the team looses but they come top they r happy.

With turrets in T1 you didnt get a score so the insentive to place turrets was less so ppl just ppl couldnt be assed.

same would happen in T2

Well I've always been for turret points, if your the engineer working hard to maintain the turrets I think you should get points for it. You won't be getting points any other way. The only other option is to abolish the personal points which wouldn't be a great loss IMO.

Even though iv'e long said that personal scores should be done away with, fact is it just won't happen. Dynamix ain't no fools, the game would take a big drop in player numbers if this were to happen. Personally play the game as i see fit, granted people destroying turrets, blowing up mines so they can place there own, so they can get the points is just gay. But one last thing, ill never do what somebody tells me to do when playing on a pub and i don't think it's in my intrest, iv'e payed my 30 quid like everyone else, and ill be dammed if some 13 year old kid tells me what to do:p

I wish the T2 forums in game didn't scroll so fast.

QIX actually posted about scoring and people pulling stunts like this. He basically said the only reason there is personal scoring in CTF is because all games before them had personal scoring. If it was up to them they would of removed the scoring (and may still do). Siege has no personal scoring for that very reason.

They won't do it though:) There's no way, in the main game type, they will ditch the personal scores. I guess when there game sales go through the roof they might:p
