Ok, a serious post from me, a rare thing
Been unwell for a couple of months now, about a month ago I started suffering real nasty headaches all day every day. I went to see my GP and he diagnosed it as moderate Hypertension (high blood pressure) and so he ordered me to drastically change my diet plus I had to give the booze up indefinately. I did both and started to cycle every day on my exercise bike. A month has passed since then and I went into see the doctor again on Friday, he took my blood pressure again and my diastolic blood pressure number had risen another 10 points.
That is pretty bad news if you aren't aware, my blood pressure should have fallen given the changes I had made to my exercise and eating habits, for it to go up instead could indicate something more serious. The doctor has booked me in for a battery of tests at my local hosptial including a kidney scan and an electro-cardiogram, he has also put me on Lisinopril which is a drug designed to work on the kidneys somehow to artifically reduce blood pressure. I have been taking the medication for 2 days now, the side effects are not very nice at all and I constant feel light headed, the chemist said these effects are normal and will settle down after a week to 10 days but until then I am in for a crap time.
Anyway, as you can imagine this a big shock for me. I am 31 and a bit overweight but I didn't expect to ever have problems like this, I eat pretty well and try keep salt intake down, I have drank alot of booze though and that could well be part of the problem.
My plan now is to get my arse out of the chair and away from the PC for a while, I feel like crap anyway and staring at screen for hours on end is only making the headaches worse. Until I have had these tests at the hosptial I can't do any serious exercise so I am just going to do alot of cycling at very low settings on my exercise bike to try help get some kind of fitness.
A few of you might be wondering why I am posting this here, well I am not going to be posting for a while so I wanted to let friends who are offline at the moment know, that is part of the reason anyway. The other part is that I wanted to make a point of telling you all not to take your health for granted, I have and now it has come back to bite me on the arse, PC's are great but it is all to easy to spend half a day on one and trust me that isn't good for your long term health.
