The medication appears to be working well, I am also eating alot better and doing 20+ miles a day on my exercise bike. Generally I am feeling alot better. I won't know until Friday how much the medication has reduced the blood pressure, I am booked into to see the practice nurse for a blood sample and a pressure check, fingers crossed it will be better news. As it stands I am booked in for a full battery of tests at my local hosptial on the the 1st of March, I will know alot more after that and have a clearer idea about how long I will need medication for.

Be back on yer boots soon Chodax!
Also remember that any kind of cure takes some time to kick in, so don't be too worried, try to go out and don't think about it as long as possible.
All the best.

Update time :

Saw my family doctor last Friday, the medication has dropped my blood pressure down to 125/85 which is a huge drop but happily that is a much healthier number. The chronic headaches vanished from the day I started on the medication and I am feeling much better now, I will have to stay on the prescription for a while yet but I am eating well and cycling 20+ miles a day on my exercise bike so it is all going in the right direction.

My appointment at the hospital is still over 3 weeks away so no idea if they will find anything with regards to a genetic problem but I am much more positive about it now than I was a month ago. :)

Had similar things last year Chodax. I'm a bit older and in my case it was mostly down to stress of work. Too much travelling and getting grief for it at home :). Had to do some re-evalultion of my work/lifestyle. But as I spend about 5-6 hours a week in the gym/pool more excercise was not going to help. Diet and less stress will help enourmously. Also alcohol has a very big affect on blood pressure.

Good luck with getting it sorted out. At your age high BP can lead to nasty problems later in life so chill out and get it sorted.

Best of luck.

Thanks :)

Something like 158/112 and I was suffering from chronic headaches with it 2-3 times a week.

Cheers :)

Mine is very much related to lifestyle and lack of exercise but alcohol was what pushed me over the edge. I had a lads holiday in Tenerife in November and from the day I got back I just wasn't right, I had been suffering with the headaches occasionally before the holiday but after it they were 3 times a week. The boozing and eating tons of crap that week probably added 20 points to my blood pressure and from then on I was struggling to get it under control I think. Christmas was the straw that broke the camels back though, I felt horrendous Christmas week and the headaches became so frequent it completely ruined the holidays for me. My mum forced me to go see the doctor on the 28th December and I was diagnosed with stage 2 hypertension that morning. Since then I have been working hard and the medication has done wonders, not had a single drink since that day though and it is killing me :)
