I would have said that one, but (a) it let down the books IMO, and (b) it isn't really a "series".

Transiranic heavy elements may not be used where there is life... Saphire and Steel have been assigned !

I am sad and have them on tape --- still very good.
The first one -- the old house with nursery rhymes whispered and the past breaking through to the present.

Dr Who still wins overall tho ----- but the likes of Saphire and Steel/ Red Dwarf/ Hitch Hikers/ Babylon 5 etc are still great.

Who Else. Ah ha ha.

Doctor Who is the one. Let's face it, it went through so many different style changes from season to season, producer to producer, Doctor to Doctor that it would probably rank as several of the best sci-fi series (in all but shallow production values).

I have a big soft spot for Blake's 7, but that's four series of good, similar stuff compared to 27 years (and countless great novels - including Virgin New Adventures classics Nightshade and Human Nature and Who Killed Kennedy) some genuinely good comics - it's the longest running comic strip based on a TV series - and, um, a shit spin-off (K9 and Company). The new audio dramas are cracking too (particularly Spare Parts).

It wins all the polls, it rocks, yet it's still the under-dog, and it's a way of life:)

Ahem, back to work.

Colin

BTW, V is coming back - Kenneth Johnson (who created it then left it after the first mini-series, and then it jumped the shark ever more so until the 'A Team with Aliens' series abominmation) is behind it, so fingers crossed, people.

Me too.

What about the episode where the woman appeared with no face, just a blank head with hair on.

Top stuff. Gave me the mega-willies as a kid.

/edit: And how did it end ppl ? :)

I know there was a pre-production thing, just to promote it to execs of tv shows but is it going to be made for real? I can't wait to see the big ships with moving sensors :)

Theres so many :/

Star Trek:DS9 (after a few series, the first few were shite)
Red Dwarf (still watching it on BBC PRIME, timeless)
Dr Who (scared the shite outta me as a kid. One that sticks is where he's trapped underground with maggots)
Battlestar Galactica (great series, even if it did get crap when they reached earth)
blake 7 (diddnt appeal to me but a good watch nonetheless)

and finally

The Prisoner

What do you want?
Information.

Star Trek has been really pissing me off lately. Story lines are too damn simple. It's like an ideal american future. Most of the characters are so 1-dimensional it isn't funny.

I mean can you just imagine any of the characters from DS9 sitting on the toilet straining away. It seems like they never piss, they hardly ever eat, they never secrete bodily fluids etc etc. There aren't even toilets in their fuckin quarters for gods sake the walls should be covered in piss.

We need a sci-fi series that is a cross between Rab C Nesbit and Babylon 5.

I'd actually throw Ultraviolet into the mix. Not the best obviously but damn good (if short).

But there's something everyone's forgotten, something I possibly like even more than Buffy / Angel - arguably the best sci-fi series ever (if it counts though?)...

Spaced!!! If not sci-fi it's certainly the best geek-friendly show out there.

"Now I don't care, if you've saved up all your little 50ps, just take your money, AND GET OUT!"

The Empire Strikes Back ending scene with Mike yawning as Chewbacca was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
