They are a right laugh, but I do have a problem with the ones that are really overly gay and just camp it up for the attention, they are more irritating than anything. <deep breath> ok, I cant even believe I'm going to talk about this on a public forum, this is probably one of the few secrets I have, this will be the first time I've told anyone about this, but I guess I have to talk about it to someone at some point.

I had alot of trouble on this subject for a long while, back at the age when I was in highschool I had a real good friend, he was older than me by about 4-5 years, we were both very strongly into computers and gaming. We'd literally spend 10 or more hours most weekends playing console games together. At the time I was getting bullied at highschool, so friends for me were few and very far between. This went on for almost a year, developed into a good friendship.

Anyway, he turned out to be gay, when he "came out" he did it infront of me in a really fucked up way, basically tried it on with me in an over the top way, baring in mind my age at the time what he tried was illegal. I played it cool (despite being scared out of my fucking mind) and talked my way out of it. I dont feel able to go into the details of what happened, but nothing much happened *to me* as such, if that makes sense. Anyway, I managed to get out and obviously never went back again.

For years, and still to a lesser extent today, I hated that persons guts for what they tried and what they turned out to be, the hate(however wrongly) spreaded to any and all other gays. The thing is, he was still my best friend in a way - obviously I could never go back round there after what happened but half of me *almost* wanted to because, despite being gay, he was my only friend.

I feel that the event emotionally fucked me up though, for ages I associated the word "gay" with what nearly happened to me, and for a long, long while I was very aggresively homophobic. I lost what was basically the only friend I had at a time when the bullying at highschool meant I needed a friend to turn to.

Luckily now I'm getting on alot better, however the scars of what happened are still there, its almost comical but I still find myself leaning towards hating gays for what they obviously arent in the first place.

I've had times in the past where the "imo, the only people who dont like gays are people not secure with their sexuality " reason has been used against me and its been hard to overcome that each and every time. Its getting easier, probably partly because I myself am maturing and becoming more secure in my sexuality, but having that reason poked at me still pisses me off no end.

I guess its a measure of how secure in my sexuality I am now that I can even write this down here, and as I say I guess I had to tell someone at some point, now seems like as good a time as any.

I respect you for having the guts to come out and talk about it.
The sad truth is that nearly none of the people who are overly agressive and hateful towards homosexuals act the way they do because something, like in your case, happened that has made them assosiate gay with something really bad. But simply out of ignorance and insecurity. But your story certainly makes me think twice about using "you are just insecure about your sexuallity" to everyone who is homophobic

wow Dukat im sorry something like that happened to you an attempted assult is just as scarey for a guy as for a girl and dont feel ashamed or try to laugh off what happened to you, big respect for being able to share your xp here and (as we've seen) open folks eyes to the fact that some times there is a reason for dislike towards certain groups.

From my own experiences i could have grown a great deal of hatred toward a certain group but i was able to see that one person doesnt stand for the majority and didnt tar them all with the same brush, dont let one persons mistake sway your opionion on everyone there are some good people out there no matter what "group" they may belong to.

Yeah, some gay men really do develop that John Inman 'are-you-being-served' voice. Some of them don't adopt it, it's actually natural to them. Not me. I'm a teency bit camp and I will play it up for comic effect but not to draw attention to myself from randoms and expect everyone to pay attention to me. On tuesday, my friends asked me to mince around for a while just because they'd find it funny.

I think it's important that all straight men should know that not all gay men are sexual predators that the media makes them out to be. There are of course a few, just like there are a few predatory heterosexual males or even women. If I liked someone that I knew was straight, I wouldn't make a move on them. Ever. I'd cry my eyes out to myself and pray to Cher for them to convert!
I'll flirt with friends that I've known for a very long time but only because they know it's a joke and will reciprocate. It's all good fun.

Thats how i feel too i go drinking with a gay bloke who is a great guy and is as normal as you like, but his boyfired is a proper queen and it can get embarasing drinking with him. I have always said you can be whatever you want at home but there is not need to shove it in peoples faces.

Happened to me only once. In the days when I used to hang out with a load of trendy folk in Soho (London). Went to a gay bar. Cut a long story short this gay dude wanted to shag me. Being straight, I wasn't interested and told him so. He said "well if you're not gay what are you going in a gay bar" which I thought a little naive. Anyway he wouldn't get the message. Kept trying to pull me. Then I told him I was a martial arts instructor and that if he touched my ass one more time I would put his hand so far up his own ass that he could tickle his lungs.
