Right, I've noticed some of you going on about this, and Neocron has just crashed on me for about the 20th time today, so Im bored and fancy something different. What's it like? And is it still in beta, or retail?

Heh. I tried to write it so it wouldn't sound like that. To show good faith I found this for you:Originally posted by stu
hm. Downloaded, installed... crashes. Looks like some sort of DX initiation error or something. Double click the icon, swaps to black for an instant, then dumps back to desktop, remnants of the window it attempted to create quickly disappearing. Ah well.
Summo you're not trying to tell the newbie that he's posted in the wrong forum now are you...?![]()
Come play!Q: Why does the demo crash to the desktop when I try to load the map?
A: This is caused by a bug where your video card accelerates vertex shaders in its drivers, to fix it go into your main demo folder then go into the settings folder, open up VideoDefault.con in WordPad and add the line renderer.hWProgramableTransformEnabled 0
to the end, save and exit, 90% of your crashing problems should be fixed.

As the game stands, the netcode is more likely to get you before your FPS ever becomes a problem.
Personally I'd set quality as high as you can and only start worrying about FPS when it becomes apparent.
Naff all. I have 4x AA forced on all the time now and there's no performance hit as this is entirely a GPU-side process. FPS is reliant on CPU more than the power of your graphics card. Provided your card is up to the job (and I'm sure it is), leave AA on.Originally posted by stu
What sort of performance hit does Anistropic filtering (2x? 4x? 8x?) likely to give me? And am I ok leaving any sort of AA on? No Antialiasing looks hideous after getting used to 8x.
