My brother in Australia wants to meet up with me on a European server (I am in Germany) - can he play on a European server? I am currently doing newbie training at Logres.

But isn't it the case you need to buy the European rather than the American version of DaoC? And what about lag? Is that a factor? Of course, we'll be lending our (as yet puny) muscle to lay waste to fair Albion...

you need to:
1) get a euro account/buy a EU retail cd key
2) Get someone from Euro to give you the EU version of a file called update.dat
3) Bootup daoc and it will be updated to the Euro version

If you havent had daoc b4, just buy the euro version and you will be fine

as for lag, you might be better staying with the US servers based on the situation here in EU, support is better and its cheaper to play there

Hereward - use the "recommend a friend" bit from the main site
http://daoc.goa.com/en/

login to "subscription" and select the recommend a friend bit..

it'll give him a download link for the client and he can subscribe to the full game :)

I logged into subscription but can't find the "recommend a friend"... But my brother now says he has an EU version of DaoC, though it isn't bundled together with "Shrouded Isles" like my CD. Is that a problem? Can we both meet up on the Logres server? And does everyone on that server speak German? My bro can't speak German... :D

Isnt that New Zealand and, erm, Wales ?

Yeah it is, Wales that is. Australia's the place where they nominated 'Pickpocketting' and 'Bank Robbery' as two of their national games ;)

hrm can't login to subs from here (not got the passwords at work) - it might have a different name. There's definitely a "convince your poor mates to join".

Daoc bundled with SI is fine as long as it's an EU version, just register with the classic key, activate the SI key.

Logres is a German server - the server language is german and most of the people there will be speaking german. There's some odd bugs that surface if your client is in a different language to the server.

(though you can change your client to german if you change your update.dat to say "german" instead of "english")

he said it isnt bundled wit SI :(
which means u can still meet up but ur brother wont be able to go to the SI places or use the SI charactors means he can only goto classic zones... i think. not sure.
and if ur brother cant speak german then imo choose a server where u both speak the language or he may have a hard time ;)

Okay, thanks for the tip! Can you tell me anything about English-speaking guilds for Midgard and how to join them? I'm a bit lost... :D
