Stereotype much? People don't half talk drivel about driving behaviour. BMW and Audi now sell so many cars they've effectively become the mainstream, so the stereotypical BMW/Audi driver is "everyone". Any perceived "reputation" is entirely in your head.

For the record, Mercs leave me cold, always have. I get the quality argument, I just can't remember ever coveting a Merc, whereas I've certainly coveted plenty of BMWs and a fair few Audis. On the other hand I'm stupid enough to have owned three Alfas, so I'm a glutton for punishment anyway.

Another cretin who believes everything he reads about cars he's either never driven, or never likely to own.
I've driven multiple BMW's and AUDI's in multiple country's thx, as well as a lot of bikes, a range of ATV's and a speed boats and yachts. Even a trike and 1000c chopper actually ....

Next question knob end ... Oh and when I was in Uni, if you look out my window every day you will see the car park full of BMWs owned by? Black people and mixed indians. The car term black on black comes from where you think? Mostly black guys in the states putting black rims on BMW's ...

I sure would get one, i think it looks absolutely gorgeous....

New style merc saloons over Audi/BMW anyday, it's not that Audi / BMW is a bad car it's the rep.

BMW = Black wannabe gangsters / Indians and real estate agents.

Audi = Business people in suits that drive like Hamilton but have noone of the skill.

You sir have watched to much Top Gear.... :(

And driving these cars relates to understanding who buys them how exactly?

So you draw your ownership survey data from...one car park. If I looked out of the window at say...any software campus in the Thames Valley I will see a car park full of BMWs owned by? White guys in suits. If I look out of the window of...any supermarket in the UK, I will see a car park full of BMWs owned by? Yummie Mummies. BMWs (and Audis) are mainstream cars, more BMW 3-series were sold in the UK last year than Mondeos; I doubt they were all sold to the yoot in Brixton and Streatham innit?

Oh and i just have to add this, black on black means the interior and exterior is black.

It has nothing to do with "black people" what so ever.

I only go by what I experience on the roads every day. It is almost always a german brand car that is driven discourteously and aggressively. Fords, Vauxhalls and other "mainstream" brands should be just as well represented for aggressive driving, but they're not. I haven't quantified my claims because they are subjective at the end of the day.

We're in complete agreement. I've never felt any attraction towards Mercedes, BMW or Audi cars. My appreciation of german engineering goes to Volkswagen for the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. I'll never drive one, but watching the "making of" documentary on Discovery made me realise that it is a feat of precision engineering.

I take your point about BMW sales, but there are regional differences. You're likely to see more of them in the commuter belt than here in N.Wales for example. Yes, there's a BMW dealership not far from me. Yes, people here drive BMWs. Just not as many as in a city or more southern regions.

Great, fucking thread derailed, nice work.

Meh. Internets.

I think your last sentence is the salient point. It is subjective. Problem with car brands is they're all laden with sociological connotations. You notice badly driven Audis and BMWs because you expect to notice badly driven Audis and BMWs. Its the stupid bitch who parks her X5 across three spaces in the supermarket you notice, not the equally bad parking by some bloke in a Passat; its the RS4 that tailgated you that you remember, not the photocopier salesman in a Mondeo that hogged the middle lane.

I take your point about BMW sales, but there are regional differences. You're likely to see more of them in the commuter belt than here in N.Wales for example. Yes, there's a BMW dealership not far from me. Yes, people here drive BMWs. Just not as many as in a city or more southern regions.

No doubt, but that's changing as they push their brands into new segments; in the past BMWs were mainly bought by company car buyers because there simply weren't models available for the average private C-segment (Focus/Golf) or even B-segment (Fiesta/Polo) buyer. Now all the premium brands are in there.

Nice car, but I tend to find the drivers who drive too close and tailgate are Audi drivers. Merc and BMW drivers also get a bad rep, but it is usually an Audi driver that's driving in a discourteous way.

Only last Friday I had an Audi TT zoom up behind me, flashing headlights. The fact I was halfway alongside an articulated lorry, travelling at 70mph didn't make a difference. He was literally less than a metre off my rear bumper and flashing headlights all the time. Some people would move their left foot over and touch their brake pedal. I'm not one of those people but I won't be bullied either, so I carried on at 70mph until I was a car length clear of the lorry then indicated and pulled in.

Mr Audi TT was shouting, hitting his horn and gesticulating wildly as he accelerated away at a speed approaching 100mph.

The happy end to the story is that I passed him 10 miles down the road. He'd been pulled over by a NWP unmarked blue Skoda Octavia VRS with strobes in the front grille and rear window. Serves the fucker right. :)

(Yes, I picked option 4)

You break with your left foot? :eek7:

on a slightly other subject ive never really understood the idea of a "small" BMW or Mercedes (like the A-Class)... i mean... why? there are so many good small cars out there, why pay for the badge? :p

would be like buying a Ferrari SUV or something, weird!

I once tried to do that in an old automatic BMW which used to cut out when the engine stopped revving...(and it was a bit tricky getting it started again.)

My subconscious brain thought it was the clutch and I ended up locking the wheels and skidding to a stop.

Luckily it was a quiet road with nobody behind me

I didn't do that again!

I could go into a long explanation about brand psychology and the economics of volume platform manufacture, but I cba. At bottom, if you buy a premium brand you'll generally get more back when you go on to sell it.

GT is a bit...wobbly. Its a really old chassis design (going back to the 145), and that makes it a bit crap on the bendy bits. Pretty car though.

my mate had one for a while, around 80 grand I think.
The second night he had it they broke into his house , tied him up and tried to pinch it, but it has two sets of keys, a chipped key and a Renault style rfid which he had upstairs in his jeans, so they left it.
He took it back and bought the ordinary looking one with the same engine and he's downgraded again actually to some other Audi, he got sick of thinking he was being followed home.

You went to University? Which one, the University of Bognor Regis perhaps? Or the University of Epping Forest? Fuck me, they let people with your intellect go to university these days. It just goes to show, bums on seats = ££££.

Westminster, I dropped out and moved to Thailand and started a real estate business. Most weekends I do trackdays in cars and on bikes someone like you could never afford to even run let alone own.

So do your shit 9-5 job, drive your shit car, and give most of your money to the state and on rent / a mortgage. And shut the fuck up judging people that probably live a far superior life style than you.

"cretin" the Asians money I deal with, have that much cash, probably wipe their arse with more than you make in a year.

So you dropped out of University, presumably because they'd set the intake requirements too low for you?

For your information I don't do a "9-5 job", I've been self-employed all my working life and have never worked in a full-time job. I don't drive a "shit car" either, not that you have the first idea about what one would be. The fact that you equate wealth with social status and happiness confirms pretty much everything I suspect, which is that you're a bullshitting forum warrior with less experience of the world than my crusty ringpiece. A sub-par myopic little racist whose English language skills amount to the culinary equivalent of a Tesco Value Spaghetti Bolognese meal, and whose believability is on a level right now with Johann Hari.

Do keep posting though, your efforts to belittle are entertaining, in a rather pathetic way.

No, I brake with my right foot as normal.
If you want to shit someone up who's tailgating you, bring your left foot over and just touch the brake pedal to bring your brake lights on. Your right foot is holding steady on the accelerator and the person behind you almost always backs off sharply.

It can also cause an accident so I don't do it.

Sorry mr "self employed", how much to get my boiler fixed? If I was in my 30s and "self employed" as the Brits that can't run a successful business and don't want to work for a firm call it. I would not be on a forum acting like a middle class tosser, belting peoples intelligence and opinion when in reality i'm nothing.

"wealth with social status and happiness confirms pretty much everything I suspect" not once did I mention social status was more important than money ....

You clearly know nothing about me, yes I'm dyslexic and don't spell check, but I couldn't care. I can speak, read and write 2 languages, one being thai which is one of the top 5 hardiest languages in the world for a foreigner to learn.

I've had four BMWs; I'm white, I'm not an estate agent and don't aspire to be either of those.

People don't half talk drivel about driving behaviour.

Indeed, although one thing I can confirm about being a BMW driver is that absolutely noone let me out.

For the same money I could have either of these.

Absolutely :D.

Great, fucking thread derailed, nice work.

Gimmly, I thought you were a reasonable bloke, but this post just really made me cringe. Boasting on an internetz foruumz? Sad mate, really darn sad. One thing I've learned in life is that those with vast sums of money and quality of life don't need to boast about it. You also picked the wrong guy to insult regarding the 9-5 remark.

How would I know how to repair a boiler? Actually, scratch that - I'd love to know, since most plumbers I do know earn a bloody good living doing a job valued by many. I know one plumber who's been a Godsend to me, and I'd pay him whatever he asked for his skills.

If you're dyslexic (a common ailment, judging by the number of people on the internet who can't string more than two words together), then I'm a Thai whore. No, you're just not very clever.

No offences to you, but you've got it twisted and i'm not "that guy", I didn't bring money into it. I personally can't stand him, I think hes a complete knob jockey and he brought all that up, read his posts.

I merely stated my stereotypical opinion, which is what a forum is for, it should be meet with other opinions. Not a personal attack based on absolutely shite really? I could own a 10 Ferraris and work as a BMW test driver for all of FH knows.

R8? Leaves me completely cold I'm afraid. I'm sure they're great cars but I really don't want one. I would save 30k and buy an M3 personally, and spend a bit more on trackdays to perfect the art of going sideways at every opportunity.

I'm sure if I was a real estate mogul in some backwater Asian country where the men are men and most of the women are too I would feel differently, but then what would I know? I drive a BMW at the end of the day, so am clearly black/indian/sell drugs (casual racism much?).

Except I'm not, and bought mine cos its a fucking good car.
