For quite some time now, I have held a strong passion for entering into a career in the police force; in preparation for a career in this area I decided to study criminology in order to enhance my knowledge and understanding of criminal behavior. I feel the next logical step is to gain some practical experience in the area, something that I believe I will gain from being a special constable. I feel that this opportunity will provide me with a fantastic chance to confirm and grow this desire.
I have always been active within my community and have participated, as well as help organise, numerous activities. One particular experience remains strongly at the forefront of my mind, during my time at college I was involved in a volunteer bereavement-counselling program, which was conducted via email for young people, this was the first real commitment, other than work and college, that I took on and it showed me the value and reward of giving my time to help others. I see joining the special constabulary as the next step in giving my time to volunteer work.
Personal integrity and trustworthiness are qualities that I value highly, and are among some of the primary qualities that I feel a police office should show, I feel that I not only hold this qualities but display them, both, in my social life and work as a cashier and customer service assistant at Lloyds TSB bank.
Understanding the needs of the customer is something which is vital for my role in Lloyds TSB bank; this is a skill, which I believe is not only transferable to the work of a special constable but is equally as vital in order to provide a service which is compassionate, fair and effective.
The special constabulary provide a unique link between the community and the police force and I feel that it is a role I will fit perfectly into.
