Sorry TdC, seems that what I've written is a load of tosh Sadly BF2 doesn't support custom resolutions, unlike many other games I've used it on. Here's hoping a patch will help things.

If you open My Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/0001/Video.con in Notepad or your favourite text editor and look for VideoSettings.setResolution you can change it to whatever you want, e.g.
I've done this in other games to support my notebook's widescreen resolution and it has always worked perfectly thus far (like you, Half-Life 2 with everything turned up at 1440x900 looks amazing ). As for AA and AF outside of the game, it may be worth a try. Some games don't like you doing so (Doom 3 may be one such example) but most are happy to use the settings. At worst it won't work, or will noticably impact on quality or performance, but it only takes a minute to try and it's easy enough to revert backCode:VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@75Hz
