i think if you want to kill yourself nothing anyone can say will stop you from it (and i mean really kill yourself dead...not just semi kill yourself to attract attention to a bad situation your trapped in, thats different)

and i think that people should be able to die in the same way we put animals to sleep, sometimes it really is the kindest thing for the person themselves and their family.

case in point B2's nana was like 96 and last year she had a stroke, bam! total loss of all faculties and everything , not the same person any more unable to do anything for herself. Now, B2 has always been dead against euthanasia but after weeks of sitting at his nana's side he had to admit he was feeling like he just wanted her to go rather than being kept alive he admitted the best thing would have been for her to die. he way the hospitals go about it in the UK is to withhold food/drink and the patient loses all strength, can not fight anymore and slips away.

thats all fair and well, but she didnt she hung on and hung on and it wasnt doing anyone any good. Imo a massive dose of morphine and for her to just slip away with her family around her would have been the kindest thing to do, we do it for our pets i really (really) do not see why we can't do this for other people.

I've worked in nursing homes where some of the old people are in such bad shape its untrue, covered in sores where they are so skelital they bruse and ulcerate just from laying down, they cant eat so a feeding tube is put in their stomaches, they cant do anyting , one woman i used to look after just used to cry all day long she'd cry it was ghastly and another would scream all the time, she was blind and deaf and everything terrified her she was so thin her skin would rip if you went to move her and she was in agony all the time.

so i am a firm believer in this as i have seen first hand what the alternative is and tbh is scares the ever living crap out of me to think that one day i might be one of these screaming old people.

no in its current form, it is completely open to abuse

If they implemented a measure to ensure that there is a co-signed and witnessed agreement with regulations in place i could be swayed.
But as it is right now, no

How could you abuse Euthanasia? Doctors and the courts would have the final say, I don't get how people could get anything by abusing it? Afaik, in other countries where it is legal, its already supervised, I cant see why it shouldnt be here.

x person is "assisted to die" on the apparent say so of their spouse with no proof or conformation from said person prior to being no longer able to communicate
Who's to say they wanted a assisted death at all?
It sets a precedence that's why it is bad

The doctors don't have the final say, the court's do at the moment

Now the concept of a assisted death is fine by me, but the current implementation of it is not as i said in the initial post

Easy.

If you odn't have a "assited suicide ok" card on you, or in your record, you can't be offed if you're in such a state that you can't condone it.

thats what i said :p , but atm it is not the case
thus imo it shouldn't be allowed until said practices are put in place
