So you think your doing yourself a favor when you deicde to drink less sugary drinks, and decide to go to diet drinks. This is a topic me and a few collegues have been discussing while meant to be working.

To keep it simple Aspartame is a sweetner added to replace sugar in drinks such as DIET coke. Not many people are aware of the dangers and in many countries the use of Aspartame is banned. Some info:

Aspartame Dangers

The dangers of aspartame poisoning have been a well-guarded secret since the 1980s. The research and history of aspartame is conclusive as a cause of illness and toxic reactions in the human body. Aspartame is a dangerous chemical food additive, and its use during pregnancy and by children is one of the greatest modern tragedies of all.

Why haven't you heard about this before? Partly because the diet industry is worth trillions of American dollars to corporations, and they want to protect their profits by keeping the truth behind aspartame's dangers hidden from the public. When NutraSweet® was introduced for the 'second' time in 1981, a diet craze revolutionized America's eating protocols and a well-oiled money machine was set into motion changing modern lifestyles. After more than twenty years of aspartame use, the number of its victims is rapidly piling up, and people are figuring out for themselves that aspartame is at the root of their health problems. Patients are teaching their doctors about this nutritional peril, and they are healing themselves with little to no support from traditional medicine.

Aspartame is part of the E collection as seen on the back of bottles.

discuss!

Im already adicted to sugar, so i might aswell continue drinking pepsi with real sugar in. And for the record, i can´t stand that sleazy, cheap fucking diet taste.

So yes, i try to avoid drinking / eating stuff with aspartame in it. Even if it means getting diabetes

with all the additive shit thats in diet i dont drink it because that stuff sends you crazy more so than the usual stuff, plus the usual stuff is bad enough for you as it is really. I used to drink loads of coke because its just nice and well yeh but i stopped and have been able to sleep easier and what have you :p Is better in moderation because you know you have had half a can of sugar when you dont drink it all the time!

bad stuff with goodness is always good in moderation :p

I drank diet coke drinks for years. Damaged my teeth badly, put on alot of weight and when I gave them up I was in a bad way for about a month or two until my body readjusted.

Now you may ask why I am saying I put weight and I partly blame the drinks. Well, the extra chemicals in diet drinks including Aspartame fuck with your bodies metabolism, the caffiene has a major effect too of course. So during the early days of drinking these drinks your metabolism is being artifically boosted and running very fast, then your body slowly gets used these chemicals and you start getting wild swings in metabolic rate. After long term use of these drinks your metabolism is badly screwed up and doesn't work even when it is supposed to, the chemical switch to increase metabolism becomes the drink itself and not the bodies own natural chemical. You start to gain weight and yet you are not eating any more than you were before because your body doesn't know when it needs to burn more energy. The weight gain is usually slow but you start to feel tired more easily which is a sign that your body isn't processing energy as it should, it is now so hooked on caffiene that the body doesn't produce adrenaline properly at the right times because it has been producing so much more than it has needed to due to the huge caffiene intake artifically stimulating adrenaline production.

Basically you become a junkie, you can't get through the day without a fix because your body feels so unresponsive without it. All that and then your have the toxic effects of consuming such large does of aspartame on a daily basis over a number of years, diet drinks are slowly killing you but you think they are great because they only have 1 calorie for every 200ml and the way they make you feel for an hour after you drink them is fantastic.

If I ever have kids I would never let them go near any diet drink, they are very damaging and they are also a mental crutch for people to lean on when they think they need to lose weight, they trick themselves into think that the calories they don't consume by drinking diet instead of normal will help them lose weight. Well here is the reality check, THEY DON'T HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT AS PART OF A CALORIE CONTROLLED DIET! Over time they will help make you fatter and make your body crave for an artificial chemical fix.

Avoid.

Did you know, there's this substance, that's used extremely much. It's chemical name is dihydromonoxide.

Scientific research paper on DHMO said:
Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there.

Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide:
  • is also known as hydroxyl acid, and is the major component of acid rain.
  • contributes to the "greenhouse effect."
  • may cause severe burns.
  • contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
  • accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
  • may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
  • has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

Contamination Is Reaching Epidemic Proportions!
Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:
  • as an industrial solvent and coolant.
  • in nuclear power plants.
  • in the production of styrofoam.
  • as a fire retardant.
  • in many forms of cruel animal research.
  • in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
  • as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products.

Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

The Horror Must Be Stopped!
The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.

It's Not Too Late!
Act NOW to prevent further contamination. Find out more about this dangerous chemical. What you don't know can hurt you and others throughout the world. Send email to no_dhmo@circus.com, or a SASE to:

The forum search function is as effective as trying to break the world's land speed record on rollerskates.

try google with adding site:freddyshouse.com to the searchterm, like this

Diabetic.

Drink "diet"(crap name by the way) drinks 'cause they have...no sugar(d'uh!) and pepsi max is the bob anyway :D

Aspartame? Been using it for a couple of centuries now and i feel fine, no effects whatsoever and my doctor agrees. There's nothing, at all, wrong with it.

Unless you drink 25 litres of coke/day as we calculated....

If my memory serves me correctly, coke is made of herbs and pepsi of that gooey stuff thing :D

You can actually taste the herb content in coke.

I do worry because I used to consume 2L of diet coke a day (no shit) so yeah asp is really worrying, I have cut down since and had come off it for a bit before christmas. Over xmas I went a bit mad and now I am cutting down on it again.

As chod said you get fucking addicted to the stuff and need a "hit" daily to make you feel good and yeah I put on a bit of weight since I have used it. Is there any reserch on how long you take to recover from the cumalative effects of aspartamine?

personally i drink coke and such drinks rarely, but when i do i always make sure its the real stuff. I agree, there should be alot more warning about what exactly is going in to these diet drinks that are supposidly healthier than the original alternatives.

to be honest, i preffer the full sugar flavour of coke over the diet counterpart anyway, since i usually only drink it on a hangover.

id recomend regular exercise, and replace it with fruit juice and alot of water. Coke is a nice drink but i really cant see how people can drink it constantly. as a child i used to love the sutff but since a few years ago i've basicly cut it out of my diet completely. I think the addiction is just as much mental as physical, if you replace it with a different, healthier drink (Water) you should stop craving it after a week.

Then again, health enthusia and all that "exersice" is crap in my book so, guess it's all about personal beliefs and ways you want to live your life.

Hell, people used to live up to a 100 back in the 50's with a diet of meat, booze and cigars so why wouldn't it work with modern medicine. And no, those guys didn't cough up a lung necessarily.

Live life and be happy, do whatnot you will with it.

Exactly tbh. However how many of you eat high fat foods, take drugs, smoke or drink alcohol then go on and blather about the potential damage done by a diet soda?

on a soda related thingy though what is the difference between diet coke and coke zero?
