Have been playing this, if you mean City of Heroes which I presume you do ;)) since retail and it's bloody good fun.

Pretty much the whole of our DAoC guild has moved over to play CoH and we're having a right laugh splatting villains and just waiting til City of Villains comes out so we can move wholesale into World Domination (sorry Evirros I know you'd like that job title).

While there's been a lot said on CoH and it's lack of variety, the content is being updated all the time and the hero generator is possibly the best individual character maker outside of SW:G's - if only CoH could let us alter our faces a bit more like theirs it would be perfect.

DragonEmpires: Been following this since it was pretty much first announced. Info from Codemasters on the game itself has slowed down I think, specially since they lost Calistas, and - personally - I think the game lore and stories that have been released are utter shite.
That could, however, be because I was too bloody lazy to send in my application to become the game's official lore writer! :(

Anyways, personally I'd say City of Heroes is definitely worth a go and if you get a good bunch of people in a supergroup it's great fun.

DAoC has nothing to compare to. Theres no other game that quite generates the balance of PvE and RvR that makes this game great. The three realms and not two liek most games in this genre - normally good vs evil - make it even more challenging.

L2, Wish and Ryzom all lack the real thought of what to do in a game. I logged into them, killed sommit, got bored and logged out. Even their communities are quiete still. Just check any DAoC related forums and compare how much we communicate, or even on iRC.

Many games like SWG, WoW and EQ2 seem too much in the GFX department for the sake of gameplay. Yes many left DAoC to play SWG, but are now leaving that for other games having acheived max on all their chars in less than one year. Us DAoC veterans have still yet to acheive all the perfections available to all or maybe any of our beloved characters. So longivity is a big issue here.

CoH is a good laugh, but again, I got mighty bored with it quickly. But the community on whole were great, lots fo role play and fun had by anyone who joined a random group, much like the good ol' DAoC days we spent in Vendo or Spind before PLing became rife.

DE looks the business again, but from the ppl beta testing, they are not exactly raving about its progression. My monthly email from them tells me bugger all, doesnt invite me to try it out, and normally babbles on about how they just hired some wet-behind-the-ears skript kiddy to their team. Its taken too long to develope compared to others in the genre, and I think will dissapoint when it happens.

Imperator Online, Mythic said would be nothing at all like DAoC, which begs the question....what will we do then. It too hasnt moved much since someone at the Herrald put a link up for it, around 2 years ago. Who knows..

DAoC will keep us here despite what we might think, its addictive and our freinds are all here.

Sorry but that doesn't hold water. You logged into a game, killed something and logged out? The same could be said for DAoC when it was released, or now tbh. I am still not sure about the end game in L2, but there is pvp mixed in pretty much daily. As for "what to do in a game" well not sure what you mean with that. I have any number of things to do when I log into L2. Some of it I like - helping people, doing deals, shopping the dozens of player shops, joining in clan fights, etc. Some of it I don't like - crafting, soloing, getting my dragon killed :( And of course there is always exp ^^

It's definately NOT a perfect game though. The pvp is laughable atm. The risk is too big for open pvp except in arenas, but they are about twice the size of the portal pads in daoc.

As for forums, dunno what forums you're looking at but there are loads of very active ones for L2. I tried some IRC places but seems pointless to talk to people who are in game because there are not restrictions of who you can speak to (unlike daoc). The communities are evolving slowly on each server, but it takes time.

I wish Mythic would update more about Imperator but ... well maybe in 10 years :p

If you're happy with DAoC, then good for you :) I'm not and I am prepared to invest some time elsewhere to see what develops.

Just a minor point, but theres a difference between a Dark Elf's ass and a real one too m8. Open the curtains and check out the view, there's real women out there man! The legend is true, I've seen them!

Just saw the topic, havent read anything.

Simple Answer: No.

And there wont be any good mmorpg for a long time... to those people who might say WoW... get a grip. Have never seen such a carebear land in my life.

What do i look forward to then? UO/DAoC/SB in one magically perfected game.

Cheers!

yeah rock on eve-online,
spend weeks mining rocks, getting enough cash/minerals to get a battleship(equivalent to getting sc armour for you daoc players). Warp to a gate and a bunch of bug abusing griefers kill you before you can do anything.(lag caused by loot they drop). Is a great game

There is a tiny bit more up on the Imperator website (dated 17th or 18th), but it still looks ages off.
