Are there *ANY* good pilots out there

I just spent half an hour on a map I don't remember the name of, trying to get a lift from one side of the map to the other - so I could drop a well-hidden i-station, and spam the nme gens to death.

The pilots managed to:

1) Run into hills
2) Run into the ground (many, MANY times when not under pressure)
3) Sit on the pad waiting for other players, under fire, until the vehicle was destroyed.
4) Hover over NME missile emplacements.
5) Crash into other NME vehicles
6) Go so slowly that other passengers jumped out through boredom.
7) Bomb their own base/emplacements before bombing so low they destroyed themselves.
8) Drop a boatload of heavies off in the middle of all the NME turrets, miles from any objective.....

i.e. just about f*cking everything APART from the simple task of dropping someone off behind the NME base, or in a sensible place.

I've been talking to a few people who are going back to T1 because the vehicles have, basically, killed any proper teamplay on T2.

This wouldn't happen so much if pilots THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING!

Don't drop everyone off in a stupid place, miles from their objective.

Don't fly so low that any missile hit will guarentee that you smack the ground and explode.

Don't sit on the vehicle pad, waiting for other passengers, when being fired on by a shrike/other nme. Just GO. Come back LATER.

MOVE or TURN when flying toward a hill!

It's really simple stuff people! And it might even *gasp* promote TEAM-PLAY! (remember that from T1?)

Rant over. Grrrrrrrr. :(

Yah, Mantis said it, get a tribe!! Pubs are good for praccying solo skills, you need to play in a tribe to experience proper team play though.

I'd be happy to trial you if you want? Name is AntlPop in game, tmail me.

T2 certainly has a higher 'fustration factor' than most games.. Also today I was playing Damnation and there were like 3 minutes to go. The other team had about 10 more points and I decided to go and cap the flag (as you do :)). Anyway I cap the flag and I'm on low health seeing as everyone was shooting at me. I get the bungalo base by the water and I get mowed down from long range from chaingun...and none of my teammates went to get it!

No what pisses me off is you have the flag and are returning to base. You see people go straight past you and don't bother escorting you. If i am at base and someone makes a grab, if i can i will make a shrike and take it too them.

I can understand the comments about joining a tribe - I had a long and fun time playing T1 in KoN.

But you've got to remember - lots of people simply don't have the TIME to do the whole tribe thang - and, unfortunately, I'm one of them now.

It's quite gutting. :(

But - and here's the point - T1 + T2 are both team games. There should be a basic level of teamplay that you can reasonably expect - even on public servers. I'm mumping because, for the vast majority of time, basic, common-sense, a-5-year-old-retard-could-do-it-(blindfold) teamwork skills just aren't there!

I see more teamwork in a Q3 deathmatch!

I stopped playing T2 ages ago because of 2 things - 1) stability (not necessarily my machine - but it was annoying playing games and all you got was people spamming the global talk with "I F*CKING CAN'T BE DOING WITH THIS SH1T F*CKING GAME ALWAYS CRASHING......>" etc... and 2) lack of teamplay (worse than a T1 server full of people who'd never seen a computer before).

1's been taken care of, and well I think.

2's not improving - and you shouldn't have to be tribed to enjoy a basic level. :(

Ho-de-hum :(

Still - I'm crap nowadays - so it's no great loss to the game :)

hmm one of T2s main failure points was that it relied too much on teamwork. I mean, come on, there isnt gonna be any teamplay on a public server

That's a failure of the people who play - not the game IMHO :)

2) lack of teamplay (worse than a T1 server full of people who'd never seen a computer before).

Which is why maps that require large amounts of teamwork like Recal, Thin Ice and Quag dont make good public server maps. These maps almost invariably degrade into midfield deathmatches. Any small offence quickly getting bored of not getting very far past the solid defence.

Not saying all maps should be like Damnation (The common argument whenever i say those 3 maps suck). In fact i think all round Damnation is just over too fast usually, alough i still enjoy it while it lasts :). Katabatic is a good pace for a map with maps like archipelago and beggars run IMO being the limit before the action seriously starts to diminish.

not really since its a bit naive to expect people to play like a team on public servers

Still think you're wrong, Mr. Target :)

You don't expect people to play like a Tribe - yup - I'll give you that from the off.

However, you do expect very basic teamplay to work - I'm not asking much - just stuff like:

1) Repairing things in your base when damaged - not just repairing ONE i-station enough for you to change armour and leave the rest alone.

2) Defending the flag if there's *gasp!* no-one defending it, rather than hoping that someone else will do it.

3) Pilots reading what their passengers want (who'd have thought that dropping them off somewhere useful would help your team!)

and LOADS of other small stuff like that!

It's not "team" play - but it's teamwork in it's loosest sense.

Stuff like - bombing the flag area to remove turrets instead of just the nme vehicle pad because you get more kills.

The whole point of the game is team work - it's up to individual players whether they want to (or can) join a Tribe - and immerse themselves in the wonders of proper team play. But, realistically, you should be always thinking on a really basic level - "how is what I'm doing helping the TEAM?"

Not much to ask eh?

:)
