Having taken a year long break from DAoC im now back and have been for a few months and its apparent to me that to stand any kind of chance in a duo or solo in RvR you need a buffbut! Now everybody knows that an infiltrator is a bit of a solo or stealth group class so for me to stand any chance to compete in RvR i need a second account account and need to pay mythic double than i currently do. This i am not prepared to do. I've also noticed with mythics strange announcement about account splitting that they love the idea of a second support account, and why not its more money for them. In the long term though don't you think that a MMORPG that doesnt attract any new players is effectively doomed when the next biggy comes along? I've always benchmarked all MMORPG's i've played against Ultima Online which in it 7 years and aging gfx is still going extremely strong, i believe that this is a game full of lots of content that anybody of any level can enjoy and you dont need multiple accounts to get the best from it. DAoC seems to be getting too Uber for new people to waste money on especially with WoW and WHO coming soon. I am not flaming DAoC as i absolutely love the ML & RvR side (even though its extremely tough for an infil w/o a bb), its just i see it dieing within a year because of these things. As soon as Warhammer Online is here im gone :( My friends think the same, your thoughts?

I agree with you Kale. You need 2nd account to play that game now.
The saddest thing is that my girlfriend has a regrowth spec char (take her near a year go level 50 because she didn't want pl), with low nurture, every one complain why she don't max out her buffing line!!!!!!! And of cource they don't accept her in groups a) because she will die and they will lose the buffs b) because she isn't great buff bot.
So most of the time we play together in PvE doing quest etc or in guild groups. And believe me you really need in rvr someone with group purge (druids have it) and insta 100% heal (45 regrowth) but most of the people don't even know that they have to turn off the torch in rvr because they glow from farther distance.

So next stop for us Dragon Empires who has similar to rvr background. (WHO and WoW don't have something alike)

Do the test in the night and you will see. I did it to some people last week who said the same and they saw that is truth. Much more difficult to see me if i have the torch off in the same distance (not talking about farther which was impossible to see me without torch. That's why i have so many kills in rvr because everyone say is myth.

About the bbs, someone who his IQ is low pay 2 accounts to play 1.

Someone with a reasonable IQ would have some decent grammar applied to that sentence too.

its a part of the game if you like it or not. Abuse it or get abused, cos there's no way they'll fix a part of the game which creates more money for them.

I play DAoC with my husband, and we already pay for 2 accounts. Lately we have been thinking of getting a third account for the buffbot.

But!

In doing so, we will only be adding to the abuse. (and yes, I think it is abuse)
and we will be paying even more for this game.

We are still indecisive as it is not an easy choice.

Think that many people from different countries play in English servers so english isn't our native language. :D
If you speak Greek i will not say anything about your grammar because I know you are not Greek and don't expect from you to speak/write as I do.
Yup i know that they will not fix the distance to get rid of the buff bots, is logical after all it create more money to Mythic and GOA/Wanadoo.

The answare is: no BB are not killing the game, but on the long run they are damaging the game seriously.

Becouse BB are just one of many things driving the game to the "hardcore" direction.
And no MMORPG can survive without "fresh blood".

The high entry barrier against new players and casual players will seriuoly damage the population number, will lower the money available for new investiments and development, will ruin the game for hardcore players too.

So Mythic is just short sighted (as many companies are) and players with double account are just payng double to help Mythic to ruin the game they love.

If you can..... resist.
Game is really enjoyable even with a single account (probably not for a stealther tho  )

Or maybe they ain't? After all, they've been working on a new mmorpg for quite a while, not to mention that games does die down after having been played intensively (just see ie. UO), the fresh blood goes both to getting new players, but also new games with unfamiliar content (building on expansion after expansion isn't an option to get fresh gamers, as you already mentioned).

The cycle has to start over at some point, and it does that with a new game.

you can see the torch light above realm mates heads but i have never noticed it above an enemy realms players head

btw - go to emain without a bb and try to solo see how many kills you get, even a low IQ will tell you that to compete you will have to have a bb or spend alot of time /release

Maybe I am wrong but I still believe Mythic is short sighted.

The game they own and his player base is the main asset that kind of company has.
If the cycle ends and a new game has to become the leader chances are high that another company with another game will just take their place.
UO was not replaced by UO 2 or by another Origin game.

DAoC will probably be replaced by WoW or something else, not by Imperium.

So I would just stick to my winning horse and would try to make it better every day and attract new players everyday.

But I am probably wrong.....

its pretty much accepting now in RvR that everyone you will fight 99% of the time will be not just buffed but fully buffed with specs from a MoA BB. If your solo then its almost garunteed, if you want to compete you need to borrow buffs from a friend, group up or get a BB too.

Otherwise try and manage without if you can but you will find it frustrating, sorry but thats the state of the game, blame mythic.

I would rather i didnt have to spend money on a 2nd account, the only reason i do use one is because everyone else has one. Some retards even /stick their BB to themselves, all it means to me is i get 2x 900 RPs :)

I recall hearing something about UO2 being cancelled, and I believe many were tired of grief pk'ers - which coincidentally happened as EQ were released, and the carebears went there (not to mention, their massive promotion, attracting alot of new players).

Mythic/DAoC got it different, there's both a place for the PvP oriented person, the carebear - but also for a mix inbetween, so you can decide for yourself what exactly you want. This seems to be what all mmorpgs has these days, in one form or another, a requirement for potentional future releases. Correct me if wrong, however DAoC was the first mmorpg introducing a mix of the two elements, and alot of people has had a pleasant experience with DAoC, wether we want to admit it or not. It's only natural that people will try something from the same company, if they got a good experience with it from the past, and it'll likely happen again here.

Oh, and another thing. You forget that the main aspect of mmorpg's is to associate with other people, hence newcommers tends to leech buffs from others they learn in their game, before getting their own buffbots (hence the cycle has been repeated for another generation, even if it inevietable means the game will die down at some point).

Friar = Own Buffbot ;)

This thread has been put up a million times, only way to "fix" bb is to put range on buffs but then again, bb is more income for mythic/goa so wont happen probably...

Doubting myself to get a bb, but paying 24 €/ month can get quite expensive for a student...

The entire buff-system in Daoc have always been the biggest BUG in the game. But they are there, and prolly will continue to be, as long mythic is getting profit from it they will say " Working as intended ".
in my view buffbot ( players ) will always be the biggest noob's and will never gain respect from me, even if their realm rank should state otherwise.
BUFFBOT "PLAYERS" WILL NEVER BE MORE THAN RR1L1.

Use potions, charges, class-buff-spells, poison, and skill, and the reward from a kill feel's so much more satisfying, to make a kill on a "often" buffed Stealther seeing 6 - 7 green buff-notes vanish from him/her when he fall dead, i cant help but do /Laugh.
Never have i used Buffbot, and never will be the day i do.

Buffbots are here to stay. No matter how unfair it may seem, Mythic wont do anything about them since they net them more cash. I mean look at SoE, they are soon starting to sell accounts and platinum for players in EQ...

Unbalance in classes and population does more damage to the game than bots...
