Hi. I too have an old 2405FPW and as other 2405FPW'ers will know, it lacks HDMI in. It's in storage at the moment but will be reinstated soon. I'm about to buy a new laptop with HDMI and normal 15pin VGA outputs.

When I had the monitor plugged into my PC, I used DVI to DVI. I see I can get an HDMI > DVI adapter and then use a DVI cable OR buy a HDMI cable and use a HDMI > DVI adapter at the other end. Does it matter which one I go with? I'm assuming both will trump the 15pin VGA route.

Thanks!

edit - Just found this
A DVI signal is electrically compatible with an HDMI video signal; no signal conversion is required when an adapter or asymmetric cable is used, and consequently no loss in video quality occurs.
which is encouraging.

Just remember it does not support HDCP on the monitor, so you won't be able to watch blu-rays for example on it.

Hmmm thats a mighty fine point. I have a TV with HDMI in that I was planning on using as well, but do you have any experience with an HDCP stripper like the HDFury2? I was planning to use the Dell mostly just for extra desktop real estate in Windows but I would like to be able to run HDCP stuff to it if the mood took me.
