I don't think anyone will be able to help me with this but its worth a try.

My mouse pointer keeps flashing the busy icon avery 5 seconds or so, when it does this the memory usage goes right up. I thought it was a virus but my PC is clean.

The only thing running that slightly *seems* to coincide with this is the system idle process but apparently that is meant to be high.

I have made the mouse have no scheme, changed it from aero to 'none' but this made no difference.

Anyone have any idea on this, only started doing this today and I haven't installed anything other than stuff from my PC onto my Desire.

I tried Bit Defender first and then Nod32 luv, both said the pc was clean, I also have windows defender on and updates.

Bit Defender I don't know nor trust but Nod32 I would trust with my naked mum bending over picking up her dildo.

System idle process is simply what's not being used, so the higher that is, the less is going on in your system. When you're checking task manage did you enabled "show processes from all users"?

Use SUPERantispyware and MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials or sommat like that). The latter you need a valid copy of windows for. The first is bloody brilliant, MSE in tests picks up more than anything else.

It's not a virus, it's been happening to me recently, but only when using firefox, I'm fairly certain it's a problem with java.

edit:// although actually mine is not as frequent as your problem Trem, so maybe yours is a virus. I'm going with bird flu.

I am sure its AIDS as well :(

Hmmm as I type this the cursor isn't doing it if I leave it in the text box, its only when I move it away it does it.

Will try those thingys after disk defrag has finished.

Edit - Hmmmm IE won't connect to the internet, says theres a problem with my proxy, and I can't update this MSE or Nod32, just fails to connect.

Oh god :(

System restore has fixed the flashy cursor but MSE still won't update but at least IE is working now.

Running MSE without updates to see if it finds owt.

A bit more info on the cursor busy thing. System restore took it back to before I got my Desire and it stopped the flashing thingy, I have since reinstalled HTCSync and the cursor is having a fit again.

What the fuck is all that about?

htc thing could be polling for new usb devices, causing the system pause. read the event logs, too. look for system and app errors. upgrade your usb controller drivers as well IMO, could be some tiny bug there.

Afraid not. As much as it pains me to say it this is the correct answer:
Use SUPERantispyware
Especially it's run as a randomly named .com file variant that stops it being cockblocked by smart spyware.
