An unusual request for help....

Hi, I am a radiographer and I am putting together a competition for members of the public. I have x-rayed a number of everyday objects and will simply ask them to identify them.

The thing is, I have no idea how difficult or easy these are (some are very easy) so I would be extremely grateful if you would act as guinea pigs and try them out. I have put together a page with the images on here, and would be grateful if you could post any answers back here. Each image links to a slightly larger, better quality one if you need a closer look.

BTW if you do decide to answer then try not to look at any other answers below first, they'll probably be wrong anyway

Wow, thanks for all the responses.

Between you you've got virtually all of them right.

Nobody is terribly close to 7 yet.

10 is very difficult, I think, though some people are thinking on the right lines

Any way I think that on the whole the balance is about right, after all I want people to get most of them. Just need a couple of difficult ones to really sort them out. It's only a fun thing after all with a £10 WHS token, or something like, as the prize.

BTW I meant to say 'be as specific as possible' this was mostly because of the fruit one. The person who says what fruit there are is more likely to win than he ones who just put 'fruit'.

They're all taken just using the x-ray equipment at work (in between real live patients ), then developed in the automatic processors.

I have then just photographed them with digital camera and played with the images a little bit in photoshop.

If you want any of the original photos TdC then PM me. They are 2megapixel jpegs, around 1meg each, not great but fun to play around with.

pretty cool shame about the autodevs though [handy though they are] cos you can do all kinds of funky stuff to negs during dev time. I was thinking that it could be neat to solarize an xray neg or shock it. sure, you could digitally add the effect...but I'm old skool

Its a Monitor, coz you can see the Stand smack bang in the Middle of it, and it looks to have a Lever to Position it somewhat

Number 10 is a childs driving toy I reckon.

On the bigger piture I can make out a battery compartment just to the bottom right of the middle, so that gives you a sense of scale as it looks like a AA battery compartment.
You can see buttons on the left side of the pic and what looks like an indicator stick on the right. The top triangles I reckon could be flashing lights like indicators..or even buttons.

Anyway...do I get the prize?

What if you x-ray a human wearing clothes? Will you just see her bones or naked body?

The images are too easy to work out. You need to make scans of some more bizarre objects that passengers would take through, eg I bet nobody would recognise a shotgun microphone!
