An unusual request for help....

Tom, the images are quite easy, and that in a way is the point.

The hospital I work in is having an open day/job shop. People who have no idea what they want come in and see the jobs that are available in a hospital.

At this sort of event most of the people we get want to be cleaners, porters or work in the kitchens. A few want to be nurses, none of them have a f###ing clue what a radiographer is or what we do.

By having these pictures available to look at I am hoping to drum up a bit more interest than usual, and as there will be an entry form with the pics printed on, they will actually be taking these things home with them.

It may not work, but it is the best (and cheapest) way that I can think of to promote my profession, and raise public awareness at the same time.

If I was setting a competition for the forum regulars you can rest assured that the pictures would be a lot more difficult than those in this one :p

Puma, sad to say you can't see nakedness with x-rays, thats just superman.

Scooba, go with your original thought :), though wrong answers here are by no means proof of retardation.

wpkenny, the prize wasn't on offer here m8, :( sorry.

Leggy, still no one has got nearer to No.7 than you. You are a little off the mark, but I really like your thinking, and only wish the true answer was half as good as yours :)

Answers Friday night? Or is that too long? Most of them are here anyway.

And a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to do this, it is much appreciated, and very helpful.

That's what I'm thinking... perhaps a portable one or cd walkman ?

8 really looks more like a hard-hat than a surgical / cycling helmet to me...

Anyone who thinks that no. 10 is a GameBoy Advance needs their head screwed back on. I'm not sure of what a dose of X-Rays may do to the lovely little console, but it can't be good. Unless the rays mutate it in such a way that it grows a backlight that uses no extra battery power.

The only problem I have with No. 10 being a wind-up radio is that there should be two HUGE cogs in there somwhere. I was watching a program the other day on them. I had to cringe when the inventor dude(he was on the big breakfast a lot) broke down in tears when he was shown around the factory.. :|

BUT if it is then its upside down with the large circular thing being the speaker....hmmmmm

Well if it's not a GBA it's an Atari Lynx, or a neo-geo handheld.

OK, time to put you out of your misery.

No. 1 Extension cord. Very easy, no one got it wrong.

No. 2 Clock. Again easy, didn't fool many of you.

No. 3 Fan. This is an entire fan. It was x-rayed at an exposure level that went through everything except the metal components. The blades were there, vas, just not visible on that pic.

No. 4 Staples, again didn't fool anyone

No. 5 Selotape dispenser. Deliberately put in upside down, though still a lot of you got it.

No. 6 You all got fruit, though no one listed them all. 2 apples an orange a kiwi and a banana. All whole, there is no need to cut them with x-rays, we don't need to cut patients open either.:D

No. 7 O.K. we're getting a bit harder here. A rubber stamp on an ink pad. Thought the wooden handle would give it away. Leggy, your reasoning was spot on, that stamp was used to put on x-ray request forms for women to sign, before we x-rayed them.

No.8 Cycle Helmet. I like this picture. Taken with very soft x-rays so as not to overpenetrate the mostly polystyrene construction. Even the webbing straps look denser than the rest.

No.9 Easiest of the lot? Screwdriver.

No. 10 Lot of debate here, mostly wrong. Again this was taken with soft x-rays to show the plastic, there is really not enough circuitry or density to be a monitor. ( they'd have bloody great coils and magnets in wouldn't they?) It is a childs driving toy, though PC steering wheel was definately on the right lines.

No 11. A radio cassette CD player seen from above. I like the detail of the printed circuits on this and no. 10.

So, no one got them all right, though you all did really well. Particular congratulations to WPKenny, who was the first to guess no. 10. and to Sar as well for getting No. 7 Those 2 were without doubt the most difficult.

Grandadwrinkle, you'll be delighted to know that a lot of this has been done in my own time, even though it is basically going to benefit our hospital in the end. I hope that you do not begrudge me that very small part of your taxes that goes to pay my wages :D

At the risk of repeating my self, thank you again to all those who bothered to take part, and I'm glad those who said they enjoyed/liked it did. :)

i had a feeling it was a kids driving toy, then i thought it was part of a dash board where the steering wheel is, then i thought it was a radio with one speaker, but with a thing stickin out the side? :(
