Even if they do have WOMD America are pretty much fucked politically, Iraq didn't have any when America said they did, and invaded on the back of it.

They really should learn not to cry wolf.

Iran apparantly now has weapons of mass destruction. War incomming?

I hope for our sake, Britain does not get involved, it may well be vietnam all over again for the yanks.

We will get involved, it has been in the offing for a good while and the American oil companies will make sure it happens because they need to secure the middle east oilfields at all costs. Even if that means 10,000's of American and British lives. They cannot let Iran develop nukes because that will enable Iran to exert more pressure on other middle eastern countries and in effect gain a stranglehold on the one resource the American economy cannot cope without.

I've got better things to die of, like smoking and alcohol poisoning.

I disagree, if they Iranian's ever manage to get nukes up and running they will have too much leverage for the yanks to invade. The American way of thinking is 'get the job done now while we still can'. If it is ever going to happen it will have to happen soon.

Well, it's a bit of a lose/lsoe situation for the US.

If they have WOMD, they will use them. No questions asked.
If they don't, they fail the second time.

Either way, interesting times.

Everyone will lose except the mega rich who have a vested interest in a war with Iran, they will get very rich off thier share portfolios in military contracters and oil stocks. The rest of us will pay in blood, the blood of our friends and loved ones. The world sucks, not alot else to say.

That is the problem bud, the rest of the world gets dragged into it one way or the other, just like the second world war. The next big war isn't actually a single war, it is a collection of them in quick succession all over the aquisition or control of natural resources. Of course the goverments will use bullshit slogans about WMD's and bringing democracy to the oppressed but any intelligent adult knows what this is all about really. It is the same war that has been going on since the begining of time, the fight for the control of territory and the resources that go with it.

If Iran had nuclear weapons they'd use them against Israel
The second Iran launches missiles with thermonuclear warheads, Israel will retaliate and wipe Iran from the map.
If Iran launches a chemical attack on Israel, Israel have categorically stated they would retaliate immediately with thermonuclear weapons.
Iran would be suicidally insane to launch a chemical or nuclear attack on Israel.
The repercussions would be extraordinary.
Basically its not going to happen.
There's no need to panic every time the media reports this type of thing, but its certainly unnerving nontheless.

Well there is need to panic because the shidiots in 'murka are very eager of sending an airstrike against their uranium enrichment plants... And iran have stated that its ready to within minutes to send approx 11000 missiles to enemy targets in the middle east.. Aka war with israel/america...

Just hope we stay out of this one ^_^

I feel very sorry for the iranian people tho :(

Yeah, like with US attacking Iraq. This is the same deal. Effected me..in 0 ways.

If my life gets effected by this in any way, i'll be sure to come and say "cHodAX was right", but until then, doubtful.

The whole point is to stop them aquiring nukes whilst at the same time massively weakening them before the rest of the world, that way America retains dominance over the region. If Iran gets nukes then there is a standoff in which the Americans can not win without using nukes themselves, that is a situation they can not afford to get into. Going in now and knocking back the Iranian infrastructure 20 years with strategic bombing gives America everything it needs to retain dominance and Iran dare not use it's chemical weapons because the result would be annihilation at the hands of NATO. Iran will be forced to fight a war with conventional weapons which they can not win but they will also fight a dirty war with terrorism which the West has no answer for. In short, everyone loses except the guys who will make money off a war. Iran will get fucked over very soon, America can not let Iran be the dominant force in the middle east because it doesn't serve America's economic interests, they will need to put Iran in it's place now before the stakes are raised even higher and Iran has the ultimate retalitory weapon with which they can hold the entire middle east (and hence the world) hostage if they so wish.

Oh and please don't think I am condoning the above action if it happens, quite the opposite but I honestly feel a conflict is inevitiable if Iran doesn't back down and I cannot see that ever happening whilst the ruling elite in Iran are hardcore religious types.

If the US keeps sticking its fingers in the pies of more and more regions around the world, eventually, it will become over-stretched. Like butter scraped over too much toast. Eventually, something with snap.

Well i'll be the first one to say this then.

I would rather want the US to invade Iran than see a dictatorship like Iran (yes Iran is not a democracy, they have elections but the people have no real power) with nukes. And not because they would use them, but because then they wouldnt have to fear the US and would be able to act as they see fit in the middle-east. That would give them way too much power. And i for one still prefer the power to be in democratic hands rather than in the hands of some dictator. If Iran was a democracy, then I wouldnt be saying this.

Ofcourse, right now it seems like this'll be Iraq all over again so if theres no nukes then obviously they have no right to attack.

Agree with you Gorb. Either way, its not going to be pleasant. Its going to be a hell of a lot worse than just 'Iraq all over again'.

Iran's run by an insane dictator (ok so was Saddam, but this guy's totally bonkers). He might just launch chemical weapons on Israel as a last ditch reaction. Iran's a lot bigger geographically. Thats more places to hide WOMD. Sure the US probably knows the location of most of them. But not all. If the dictator falls, loyal fanatics need only uncover some of these weapons, and god knows what carnage they could do. Both Russia and China have *interests* in Iran. Its got a far larger fanatical following than Iraq.

There will be terrorist repercussions on a greater magnitude if America invades-bombs Iran.

If any country was to employ a nuclear attack they would be digging a hole for there entire race IE they would be /wiped for there actions, you get good and bad in every race. My dad is bigger than your dad, all that crap. The biggest threat to civilisation is not of the nuclear power, but of the plague anthrax and all human diseases that can wipe the human race, all the terrorist have to do is plant it sit back watch it spread, then blame each other for it, like mad cows disease foot in mouth chicken flu blue tongue you see these will all effect the food chain, so now revenge is sweet... we will plant a disease to kill the human race and it will come maybe not in the next 50 years, but it will happen, maybe they will be able to treat the disease but it will become more immune to the medicine over time, Aids- Small pox-something flu after the first world war, how strange I forget the name of it:( But it killed loads.

Sorry but that's crap, if there was a situation like there is in Iraq i would agree with you
But the difference is from what we have seen Iranians support their current institution (world public opinion, World Public Opinion) so i see no justification whatsoever to remove him

They have a descent HDI (human development index), the spread of wealth is average, and the GDP per capita is pretty good considering the region

There is no good reason to interfere in Iran, and this is going to end very badly for all concerned unfortunately because (i'll reiteratE) unlike Iraq, the Iranian people support their government so it will mean guerialla warfare and "terrorist" (using the term loosely as techincally they would be revolting/defending their country), attacks.
fortunately for them the yanks cant just nuke everything as they want the oil

Actually the threat from anthrax is relatively harmless due to being easily cured and it has a relatively short lifespan outside a host, which is the problem with most biological weapons.
in the devloped world catching food diseases/infections is pretty quick, if that sort of thing happend in the lesser developed nations it would cause havok as they wouldnt have the measures in place to detect/cure/control the disease before it is widespread.
What should scare you is the fact that they have identified the gene's that target by things like race, skin colour etc...
So you can make deadly diseases to wipe out a certain demographic, its only a matter of time before this is developed into a weapon

Well you do have a point there. But I have a couple of issues with that:

First of all, even though Ali Khamenei has the support of the people its not equivalent to democracy. This man has the power to start a war without answering to anyone. Religious opression, goverment controlled media, someone to blame for everything (USA) even when the fault is in the goverment does wonders for your popularity.

Second of all, they are all brainwashed. Harsh statement, i know. But its true. If theres no independent media then the people are brainwashed. And as history teaches us, people will believe anything if you tell it to them long enough. (Nazis hello?). And we're not talking about well educated people here. We're talking about religious people. (Yes yes, not all of them, but the majority) I do wonder would Ali Khamenei have the peoples support if the people would ever hear the opposite view.

And ofcourse, the women dont have a say. Thats -50% of voters.

Once again the US tries to be president of the world...

Let each nation fix each own the right way. The man on the floor will revolt when needed be... Don't let one dictatorship(the US) try to bully the world with its imperialistic thoughts.

Well you do have a point there. But I have a couple of issues with that:

First of all, even though Ali Khamenei has the support of the people its not equivalent to democracy.
A democracy is defined as:
1. A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections. - check, ableit they have a wierd system where the elected members vote in non-elected members via the Guardian Council
2. The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life.- check
3. Protection of the human rights of all citizens. - check
4. A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens. - check, regardless of what he does he is still bound by Iranian law and is accountable

There is no mention of free media as being a pre-requisite for a democratic body ruling the country, so long as all the opposition parties have equal access
Tony Blair joined a war when he wanted... a president/prime minister is elected to make decisions like that, i fail to see your point as there is no distinction between "democratic countries" and Iran in that respect

Second of all, they are all brainwashed. Harsh statement, i know. But its true. If theres no independent media then the people are brainwashed. And as history teaches us, people will believe anything if you tell it to them long enough. (Nazis hello?).
You do realise china doesnt have independant media either, yet things seem to be going fine there

This despite them having un-restricted internet access (something not even china has) which is available to most middle class households (source: BBC)

We hardly have a good situation here seeing as Mr Murdock owns most of the press and media already, now he is looking to buy out Sky too. You only have to look as far as how many people read the Sun and take it as gospel if you want to see brainwashing, or maybe the smear campaign which primed the general public before the war with Iraq

And we're not talking about well educated people here. We're talking about religious people. (Yes yes, not all of them, but the majority) I do wonder would Ali Khamenei have the peoples support if the people would ever hear the opposite view.
lol? seriously just read back that statement and try justify it with actual proof

Iran has the highest growth rate science and technology in the world, China is in second place, they helped build projects for CERN how on earch can you say they arent educated (Compact Muon Solenoid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
And 77% of the country is literate (Iran Literacy - Demographics) and has grown 11% in 9 yrs

And ofcourse, the women dont have a say. Thats -50% of voters.
The fact of the matter is that war has never solved anything in an evolving country, womens rights have come a long way in a relatively short period of time in the country and they are making leaps and bounds, which conviniently you fail to mention

For all his faults the guy has done a good job building the country
