This quote is of course very true, and as i said before u need a lot of skill and experience to get rp as high as this.
However
I also solo a lot with my minstrel, and many times i am forced to retreat out of combat because i am not going to win, whereas with buffs i would be a lot more likely to win.
In my solo experience I mostly meet a lot of assasins (especially with see hidden) who are a good fight but with the 80dmg per tic poison and high evade most of my dmg comes from dd's and im dead before i get enuf in to kill the assasin, slash spec mins have a better chance of course, but generally i find assasin easier to kill than skalds so im glad i chose thrust.
Secondly I tend to meet a lot of skalds, these are my favourite fights but again i often lose, unless i get IP and they dont, or they miss a lot (love slow weapon users sometimes). With buffs i would get as much as or maybe even more hits than them and higher str//dex to compete with their higher weapon damage.
Now maybe ur thinking these encounters are rare, but i get at least 5 a day, for a 2 hour session in emain. 5 victories instead of none is no different in the amount of fun you have, but 5k more rp
Same can be said if u meet 2 ppl mezz one kill the other etc, great fun but surely a lot easier and safer with buffs
Well just saying that knowing what to do and how plays a big part, but buffs will give a solo player a much higher chance in one on one and thus a few k more rp at least a day.
Of course if ur grouped buffs dont make much difference at all (zerg or be zerged mostly :\ )

I agree and many people Like to use buffs so they can take on the buffed players and stand a chance...
