other thing to bear in mind, it was review embargod till release, which is arguably a worrying sign.. however, regardless of that, the sense of entitlement the gaming press get means that anything , good or bad, that is embargod, automatically loses around 10% off its score cos they get pissy with having to wait

as blood said, its not amazing, but its certainly not shite, its a solid 65%-70%, not 1/5

5/10 for me, multiplayer is garbage having played more and the campaign is ok but the 2007 graphics and AI let it down.

I put AvP 2010 in again yesterday and the difference in graphics and pretty much everything else is better in every way. The Aliens feel a lot better in AvP and although the trophy kills are gay they look better than the animations for this game.

Just happy I'll get £28 back tomorrow from CEX.

Well i was going to look at the demo for this to see if it tickled my fancy, but it seems that the demo isn't a representation of the real game at all :p

Bullshit. Simply not true.

Just like its not true some reviewers take bribes for higher ratings *cough* IGN *cough*

That happens (typically to companies rather than to reviewers).

Saying they have to wait completely ignores the fact that they get the product and review it before the embargo. The embargo date is purely on publishing the review. They don't have to wait to play the game, they have to wait to print their views. So suggesting they mark down because they have to wait to play it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how games are reviewed.

Of course it's easier to just claim bullshit like this than admit you have a different opinion to most of the reviewers. Reviews are largely opinion based, but there's a lot of factual elements that drive this particular score down.

and of course there is no benefit to being "first review of X" in terms of prestige, ad revenue, and a whole ass load of other things

If it had been just another random fps game, yes. But not as an officially licensed game in the Aliens universe.
