Well, people laughed at me when i bought Blink 182's self titled album, but if you ignore the first track, which has no place on the album at all, the rest is brilliant.

Oh and Evanescence - Fallen, is pretty damn good too.

*waits for the laughing and pointing*

Yes. Also add

Outkast - The Love Below/Speakerboxx
White Stripes - Elephant
Audioslave - Audioslave
Thrills - So Much for the City

But I'd still say Absolution was my highlight of 2003. I still can't stop listening to it.

Is it me, or is it:

a) badly produced, and mushy sounding
b) purposely distorted on the cd

If b, thats a crime. I love listening to it in my car, but on the hifi, it sounds like shite.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I do have a rather good hifi, and it tends to show these things. If you compare an album like 'Tears for Fears - Sowing the Seeds', which, whatever you may think about it, is absolutely excellently produced, and listen to even the busiest parts of it, it still kicks Absolution into touch.

Absolution is a great album, it just doesn't seem to 'sound' very good.

I'd say it's pretty much a tie between:

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
Muse - Absolution

I'm going to have to disagree with Bodhi and BossHogg though, and say that I found Elephant to be dismally disappointing. Seven Nation Army is the only track on it that I find remotely appealling.

Oh, but how could I have forgotten this one:

Rob Dougan - Furious Angels

It's a tricky decision, but I think Dougan just edges it into the top spot for me.

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Streetcore
Only heard this the other day and it is indeed ace, Didnt really like much of joe strummers solo stuff before this, but this is as good as anything the clash ever did.

British sea power - decline of british sea power
Brilliant album from a band that really deserve to make it big. Even if my favourite song by them isnt on this album: The spirit of st louis.

Shack - heres tom with the weather
Hms fable was one of my favourite albums so even though it was a 4 year wait for this one i'd say it was worth it, Especially as miles apart is probably the best song ive heard this year.

Cant really think of anything else that stands out for me :/

Seriously, in a whole year if those two albums are the best you've heard it's a pretty poor lookout for where you live.

I forgot about 100th Window and De-Loused... both are pretty good, but I have to say most of the new albums I've bought this year have been fairly disappointing.

Out of the ones released this year it would have to be 100th Window, although I haven't bought many. Out of the back catalogue stuff it would have to be Peter Gabriel 1, Volare! and Songs From The Big Chair.
