Few albums out this year I'm enjoying, notably Graham Coxon's Happiness In Magazines, Belle & Sebastian's Dear Catastrophe Waitress, Franz Ferdinand's self titled effort, and The Streets' A Grand Don't Come For Free.

New Sonic Youth album out on Monday too...

Graham Coxon is SHIT.

Beyond belief.
Aye, he was on Later with Jools last night, total bollocks. He can't sing for shit (not that that seems to stop anyone these days).

Dieselboy's Dungeonmasters Guide is so far my album of the year.

Let's see, a few albums come to mind.

Disillusion - Back To Times Of Splendor
Orphaned Land - Mabool

There has been loads of other good but nothing unique or new that would make me want to proclaim it album of the year half way thru the year. :m00:

i think most of the music has sucked this year..

I especialy liked when it people thought Franze Ferdinand were gonna be big they were just another rock band with a 1 hit wonder :m00:

Snow Patrol= really shite album 2 songs worth listening too i bought the album and took it back the next day it was that bad..

I can't really think of many, but Black Sun Empire - Driving Insane certainly stands out.

Ch-Ch-Check it Out by any chance? Brilliant isn't it? Always nice to see a new Beasties album, not a bad one yet.

It's due out on the 14'th according to my friendly local record store.

The 'evaluation copy' that i been listening to seems very good. Its very stripped down Beastie Boys to maybe fit in with hip-hop thats going on atm? But the rhymes are great (horowitz's vocals are the best imo). Most of it does seem a lot slower than say the single or Hello Nasty but thumbs up so far :D

Yes, the 'evaluation copy' that I also got my hands on (review purposes an' all that) is really goooood. I prefer the tone and style of this album to Hello Nasty! Two thumbs and Three fingers up from me! Rah!

I forgot to add Snow Patrol - Final Straw. Excellent Doves/Coldplay-ish type rock, altho thankfully it's closer to the Doves than Boredplay. An excellent chillout album imo.

"Bolted to the cross" by Ribspreader, and "The eye of every storm" by Neurosis are strong candidates so far.

:/

Have you not heard any previous Beastie Boys album? The beats are so weak as to be almost non existant. They are all talented musicians yet have chosen almost inexplicably to rap over Inkredible Skratch Pikles' style battle beats. When using stripped down beats you have to have great flow and clever lyrics, neither of which the Beasties are known for. What works over multi-layed samples and funky loops ala Ill Communication or Sci-Fi beats ala Hello Nasty doesn't work when you've got nothing to distract you from them.

Try Madvilliany or MF Doom's Mmm Food for great hip hop from this year.

Yep that Madvillain album is fucking awesome.

SNow Patrol are shit. Who the hell chooses to sound like Coldplay unless they're purely in it for the money? I mean...what the fuck? Why? I don't understand...it's not how music should be...ripping off the bland! Watering down the already pitifully diluted genre that is 'Big Music' .....ramble rant ramble
