I'm afraid I am a resident at Demon. My regular server (11) gives me tough matches, but any server outside that is normally a bit of a joke. BW normally gives me a good even match, Jolt I don't really play on. BY occasionally, pretty much of a muchness with BW, but not quite as much friendly banter, which is always nice.

Blueyonder recruits admins via Time Machine from 1940's Germany. We (tinw) don't need that on BW.
90% of CS players are 15 year old subliterates [1]. Abuse is not Abuse to them; it's an integral part of their language. Deal with it. Everyone else does.
Using a female name will only serve to attract additional attention. So don't do that.
Let the admins deal with the cheats and teamkillers. Don't waste their time with whiney crap.
Alternatively you can go to Blueyonder, where the admins will be more in goosestep with your thinking.

I go on a server to play counter-strike which i am good at (most of the time anyways ) Basically this pisses certain players off as and i quote "no way can a F****** girl beat me" which i've had many a time . Perhaps you should be telling them to deal with that then perhaps i would'nt get so much abuse .

Bah, I've had racist abuse on servers... pees me off - main reason why I turn coms off - listening to 16 year old gimps shouting things like 'nigger!', 'black bastard!' and 'chinky!' just doesn't go well with me (being British born Chinese).

Lara says in her original post that she usually puts up with this sort of treatment, though most here feel she shouldn't have too, but was disappointed that the admin that was there didn't do anything about it. I would strongly agree with this. Admins are surely not around simply to deal with cheats and team killers, but must also make sure that the game is played in a tolerable environment.
The name of this admin does not need to be publicly stated, but I would like to think that Chetan would find out and have a quiet word with him. As has been said before, BW has a stronger sense of community than any of the other major servers. The admins are there to ensure that it remains so.
In my opinion all xenophobic, mysogynistic homophobes should be banned from Barrysworld, but that would remove 90% of 15 year old males anyway.

Using a female name is probably the easiest way of drawing attention to yourself in CS. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. If you don't like the attention that goes with a female name, then don't use one.

a 'fag'
a 'cheating fag'
a 'camping gay fag'
These had no effect on me. You see, I am Horrifically Old and secure enough that even Cutting Jibes such as these tend to bounce off.
If I came here complaining every time someone insulted me in CS, I'd be a forum deity by now.
What's needed here is a thicker skin. The last thing I want to see is BW becoming over-adminned like Certain Other servers.

We all know that this happens on all servers, that does not mean that we should simply tolerate it, especially in those instances where something can be done.

I have played Counterstrike with Lara for about 1 and a half years now, i've seen the abuse she's taken and many a time i've always supported her. She isn't the only female player who plays CS as im sure most of u are well aware and isn't the only one who gets abuse for being female. Yeh u get the odd banter with peeps asking if she'll go out with them which is all fine and well and she always laughs off, but its the amount of personal abuse that she does get from peeps that no-one should get as well as peeps being "insecure" about being killed or beaten by a woman.
If for example CS was female dominated and not as many men played it and they started on u.. would u like it and just take it? .. of course u wouldnt and u'd expect peeps with the power to help u and back u up which Lara didnt recieve and should have. Last night we was on a server and an admin did ban somebody for being abusive and he was very helpful, the person who got banned was starting on more than just Lara on this occaison, so why cant all admins do their duty?
Its people like Strangelove and others with his attitude that ruin online gaming and make people look for alternative games and servers when they shouldnt have to and the fact u dont want BW to be "over-admined" maybe cos u support this behaviour and for all we know could be one of the peeps who do insult others cos that seems to be the impression you are giving.
Instead of saying Lara is out for attention or insecure u should be backing her up cos she is neither of these things, in fact she is quite the opposite of those.

Lara can I suggest that you completely ignore any abuse that comes your way? By that, I mean that you do not respond to it in any way - although you could go and get an admin on the sly, and get the guy kicked/banned.

No, the gay insults appear because I use names that are (deliberately) camp. Now, what do you think happens when some teenage moron gets killed by someone with a 'gay' name?
The abuse Lara is getting is not purely because she is female. It is because she is better than them - they just happen to be homing in on her name. If she used a nondescript name, she would still get abuse. Just not as much.
The POINT, you see, is this:
You will always have these idiots insulting you in CS. It is the nature of the game. Ignore, fight back, cry. Your choice.

[SLH] and there member past and present, well known for being moaning lamers, on servers, and in the forums...

The gay insults do not just come from the fact that you choose camp names. As far as I have seen anyone who camps and kills these kids gets called gay. Personally I have never got upset at any of the insults aimed at me, in fact I enjoy the thought that I am getting under their skin. I have however seen racist insults on line and really hate seeing that. You ask how far we should go, but how much should we tolerate? Should we allow complete freedom of speech? Pro nazi, anti semitic comments in DoD perhaps? Is there nothing that makes you feel uncomfortable?
