Well, most the replies you get from RightNow is broken english anyways. :)

It's obvious though, that GoA never would ask you to run a program like that. :)

Obviously it's a scam. Don't reply to the emails or open any attachments in them. I'll try and get another warning put in the news about this, in the meantime make sure that your friends, guildies and alliance members know that this is a rather weak attempt at a scam.

If someone who recieved this email could forward it to me (complete with attachment) to requiel(at)goa(dot)com I'd be obliged.

I would, without hesitation, hit anyone using spyware/trojans/hacks etc to compromise other peoples computers in the face. The way we use computers today, as an extension of ourselves almost, its the same thing as trying to invade someones mind. I see any attack upon my computer as an attack upon myself and would defend myself accordingly.

As Requiel has said previously, GoA would never ask for your details and never send you any files.

their first mistake was sending a rar file. The majority of general users prolly dont even use/know what one is.

Id say it is fake Cazno, considering it came from @runhost. And even still, Mythic/Goa wont ever email you asking for your password or asking you to run some .exe :D

upto 600rp per FG kill (as opposed to 250 or so), 2k rp for solo kills etc etc. So yes alot of difference

Actually, these scams seem to hit quite often.. Maybe GOA has a security flaw? Which in this case, results in emails from users?

I know emails can be found out from/by stuff like Freddyshouse, but still >)

Nah my sig is just an (maybe failed) attempt to funny and nowhere close to real amount anyway... Just found it silly when ppl listed their rp's prepatch, so I thought I'll do the opposite ;)

Well if you read the original post he says it was sent to an email that's not registered to any of his accounts so most likely it's been skimmed from a forum or an MSN list or something rather than Goa's database (otherwise it would have been sent to an email address that was associated with one of his accounts).

The only security flaw that GOA has to deal with are the users themselves.

Most people are naive when it comes down to preventing others from obtaining their email adresses. Just because you don't have it entered in MSN doesn't mean you're not an easy target. ;)

Example: Most people ingame have a guild website. Most of those websites have a forum - and most of that is a buggy version of PHP that can be farmed for the emails it has recorded. Voila, all the emails you need of people in that guild.

Yes, it is that easy.

Still, this latest attempt is a little smarter than the previous ones.. 'Please send your account details to UG0tPwnd@hotmail.com, thank you'. I'm not going to point the obvious mistakes, and would recommend that everyone else refrains from it as well - the last thing we want to do is tell these little fucks how to improve their nefarious activities. :)

shoulda copywrited it. ive updated my sig now anyway, specially for you \o>

OT: Why is it that every scam seems to be done by some half-wit 15 year old with english as a second language (or more likely third or fourth). Is it just that you have to be a complete moron to try and scam people? or is it that the clever scammers get away cleanly and so we're not even aware of being scammed
