A runner's phone?

I need a phone to take with me when running. My cousin recently went for a country walk and broke both ankles. He was found staggering along the road after having to crawl on his hands and knees to get there. I run miles from anyone and if anything should happen to me during such runs I would probably remain there for quite some time before anyone came across me, hence I have decided to buy a phone. I run a catalog - Littlewoods - so I am going to get one from there. This one looks to be a good choice. Powerful inbuilt camera too. Is such a phone upto the rigors of 10 mile runs over uneven surfaces? Are any?

I want a phone with a camera and music player. There are so many to choose from!

95% of the phones released today can stand running, most I'd be surprised if they didn't. Hell, my phone (LG KP500) can last while running.

you can get phones that are waterproof/rainproof with a velcro strap that you can attatch to your arm or something though.

Not sure yet. Not had the full story. He is over here on hols from Austrailia. Was supposed to fly back this weekend but they told him he can't move for 6 weeks. Multiple fractures on one ankle and a hairline crack in the other. All done whilst out for a walk! Go figure. Bust my own foot about 4-5 years ago and also dislocated a rib about 2 years ago whilst running so I know how easily such things happen.

I have ordered that phone above now and also ordered a running belt. I will probably order an armband too.

That runner's phone looks interesting but probably way over complicated for my use. I am following a 10k schedule now from this website: Time-To-Run. Highly qualified coaches that will train you for nothing. All fitness levels are accomodated. Looks a cracking site for any runner out there.

Sounds like a mare for your cousin. I do a lot of walking with the dog, no broken bones as yet :D I like the idea of being able to monitor your heart rate and having a chip on your shoe to monitor stride and distance, all while playing mp3's.

Enjoy the new phone :)

My LG Renoir has a distance monitor linked to its GPS and various other gadgets for running. (I will be using it for cycling)

Looks like I picked a good un: Reviews. Should be more than good enough for my needs. I sometimes want to take a snapshot of some animal or view whilst running and the music player capability will certainly come in handy as well.

I've got the little brother version of that phone :( KP500. Renoir was my contract phone of choice, but didn't have the cash. MEH.

I have the renoir, it's great. The gps sucks though.

OD - while it is a good phone, it is very fragile, and I doubt it will last more than 5 or 6 months.

My LG has lasted me almost 5 months. Only had one or two issues with it so far (Chet) - Is a nice phone, but it's not perfect. I find it a real pain to find phones I like.

Next one will probably be around xmas I think.

At first I hated it but its growing on me. The pen they give you with it scratches the screen though so I had to buy some screen protectors. The camera is lovely except the lens keeps popping open in my pocket.

I never use the stylus -but then I don't have fat fingers :p

The screen is very prone to damage, seen a friends get screen bleed/ leak from putting too much pressure on one spot when it was in her bag.

Mine came with screen protectors in the box though, did not have to buy any.

And conversly, I hav never had a sony phone break on me, and have had issues with nokia phones. Horses for courses, but I would say that the sony phones of the last 3 years beat nokia on software and hardware in terms of relibaility.

I have the phone now and it is a cracker. Not had a phone for years. I had one a long time ago that was chipped or something and you could ring anywhere for any length of time and it wouldn't cost you a thing. Nearly fried the side of my face using it too much. My face developed a horrible tingling feeling from the ear down to the jaw. That was a bulky monster but this one is tiny in comparison. What I like about it though is the use of graphics to display menus and so on. Makes it very easy to setup and use. Camera is also a real good quality one too with a zoom capability (uses the volume controls). Amazing bit of kit.

I also have my marathon running belt which I will use to carry the phone around in. Will need to make some sort of waterproof covering for the phone though to be on the safe side.

I keep my Iphone on my at all times.
I'm not a runner, but I am frequently on long journeys on my bike. Sat-nav has aways been useful and there are apps to record/track your gps location

I should have considered a sat-nav phone. Could have been a damn good idea especially if I trained for marathons again. Useful to plot routes in the forestry where I live. Might be able to change it come to think of it.
