I think what's happened is they're in there so much and as such get used to certain things. You know how you get used to a smell after a while? They tend not to notice the bad stuff so when the really bad stuff comes along it doesn't seem all that bad in comparison.

what I'm suggesting is that it's made clear to them in no uncertain terms that the current nature of a lot fo their posts won't be tolerated. It'd be good if a super-mod could help them draw up some hard and fast guidelines and for a while operate a zero tolerance plan. Damini's posted a sticky in the General DAOC forums now so let's see how it goes. I do strongly beleive the only way to sort it is to ban the worst offenders and hopefully without the "ring leaders" the rest will either fall into line or follow thier mentors.

No, i'm afraid it's a sub forum of what has become the arse end of the GAME.net forums.

Back in the day DAoC was gay & it was a laugh to mock it, now it's become the biggest load of bile filled spam I can remember witnessing outside of the Jolt forums.

Rather than remove or destroy the DAoC forums, they should be encouraged to look after themselves. Block posting on them for a week & state that the reason for them being locked is they're not being respected.

There are two things here. There is the rascist nonsense being spouted, and there is also the general Us vs. Them tension too.

Really, its all down the the Supermods, since they are the ones who have to deal with it. Personally, it seems a bit silly to have all those Off-Topic forums, but then again, the DAoC players would swamp this forum, and once a forum hits so many members, its impossible to keep up with it. A few lashings of the ban-stick, and it'll chill out, I think.

yeah its his opinion and in a free forum he should be allowed to say it as much as he wants. However this is a regulated forum and as such things like that should be prohibited, i was just merely warning against supressing some views unfairly if they are logically and carefully constructed arguements which someone simply finds offensive.

On the other hand if its felt someone is posting simply to get a rise out of people then by all means ban them

The suppression of certain individuals ability to speak out sounds more like nazi germany than a free forum

Im sure if I wanted to look hard enough there will be a post stating that he does not like coloured people because their skin varies from his own.

I do not go to the doac forums and the above explains why, however impressionable children play games and read the forums. Is it responsible for opinions like that to be expressed freely if so god help the future of this country.

Free speech is the freedom for people to express opinions you find distasteful.

Yes it IS responsible, BW isn't the place for them, but in general people are allowed to have whatever opinions they desire and to express them. Surpressing them is the first step onto a slippery slope in which no one is allowed to dissent with anyone in power.

It's the idea that speech you don't agree with should be prevented that holds a far larger threat to the future of this or any country.
