Thanks Clown. Wish I'd read your post before, as I just did bf2, patch 1.01, patch 1.02, patch 1.03, bf2 sf (which then patched bf2 to 1.1 I think), then update 1.12 heheh I guess I could've skipped 1.01-.03 all together, doh :p

I enjoyed BF2 for about 2 weeks, Then I stopped playing I loved the size of the maps and the whole vehicle aspect but I started to get bored of sitting in a Black Hawk shooting at helpless ppl on the floor while Athan flew it round the map for 30 minutes. For me the difference is minimal people will always go the same route they go and always get in the same vehicle. The main difference is there are more routes to take.

It all just got a little boring :-(

That's changed a bit in subsequent patches. The Blackhawk miniguns are still uber powerful but changes to how you take flags etc have nerfed it just enough to remove a Blackhawk squad's godlike-powers. I hadn't played vanilla BF in a while but I played it yesterday and playing MEC on Mashtuur City was no longer a depressing experience.

I think the trick to keeping it interesting is to mix it up a bit; I used to always play Spec-Ops, always go for the enemy base and arty (even before you got points for it); now I try to play different styles all the time, and it works.

Who the hell forced you to sit in a Blackhawk anyway? Press the E button to exit the vehicle.

imo the only good thing about a helicopter is flying it. sitting in it is terminally boring I find. happilly I've recently managed to get my head around actually flying them, which is pleasing, though I now hate idiot jets who torpedo you

I agree with the other poster PRESS E and get the hell out of that chopper and get into the thick of the fighting, i never go in blackhawk except when you first spawn on carrier.

After that i do lots of stuff.

Sneak round blowing stuff up.

Fun with mines at enemy entrance watching that tank go over the mine never gets any boring.

Kamikazi jeeps oh this is real fun :)

Sniper always a fun option

There is tons of stuff to do in this game there is never the same route or anything your not forced to sit in the blackhawk if you want to farm points thats up to you if you want to have FUN yes FUN get the hell out.

The best way to play BF2 is to never look at the scoreboard imo.

I played for about an hour and a half this morning, as it was my day off and my wife isnt well , and it was raining so my shooting trip had to be postponed. I didnt want to play css as we have a match tonight and I didnt want to wear out my l33t skills (cough) too early.
Anyway, I played for a bit, Im nearly a staff sargeant apparently, and it was quite good fun :)
Out of interest, what ranks are the people posting here ?

I'm not even there. As far as I can tell, it's accurate for TdC. Both pages show the same stats for him.

Edit: And you. You need to buy a new internet.

yeah, afaict bf2s.com updates slowly. say 3 to 6k players an hour, to stay in EA's good books depending on load. in prime time there could be 30 or 40k players waiting for an update and that can take a couple of hours.

I was thinking of cheating and putting a list of players pointing to bf2s's pages somewhere where the search engines would hit it regularly, or using an automatic unix job to hit the pages so they'd update say...twice a day. that's not nice though, and the bloke who made bf2s isn't an idiot :)

Yeah, its back up to date now. I forgot about the wait to update. He's added some new features since I last looked; I particularly liked the 'cents per hour' idea; its wrong (obviously, as I'm not American) but if I do the calc on my actual spend (BF2 & SF) on the games, it works out at just under 14p for every hour's entertainment; you can't argue that's not great value.

yer bloody mad seriously. The source engine is far better looking than that BF2 thing.
And for absolute final proof check out DoD:Source :)

Throd == tr00. Not seen DoD:S yet but even on the evidence of CSS the Source engine looks way nicer than BF2. The fact that BF2 requires a ninja PC is only proof of the fact that Dice can't fucking code :)

(or make an enjoyable game tbh)

Even the most hardened CS fanboi wouldn't say the BF2 graphics are subpar to CS.

Its just LOL no way ;/

Back on the subject, has anyone played the latest incarnation of WWII Online ? I played when it first came out, its probably the only MMOG that is FPS "twitch" style gameplay.

Well, there's Planetside as well (is that still around?). Haven't looked at WWII online for ages (we looked at running it in Europe in the GAME.NET/BW days), I've heard its improved a lot; it was a bug-ridden disaster area when it first launched (EB US had to take all their copies back from irate customers).

Thanks lads, had a fair few games of bf2 now and am enjoying it, much like early bf1942 days and cod etc. Only thing that surprised me (though in fairness it's accurate) is the degree of importance vehicles have in the game. I don't mind jumping in a jeep with a mate and going in all guns blazing and taking a capture point on foot, but the copters and planes don't hold much appeal for me ...... yet you inevitably get slapped down by a good crew. This I suppose makes traditional fps style of running about on foot harder to do in this game .. but suppose I'll get used to it :)

Fucking hell, so lame!

I go on a server, haven't played for a while. Decide to try being an engineer for a change. Lay some mines on a bridge between us and the enemy (it's wake island, no need for us to go on this bridge, only for them to come to us). Anyhoo, some fuckwit on my team decides to ignore the big skull and crossbones and drives over them in a tank. Dies (obviously) and punishes me for a team kill?

A few minutes later I'm piloting a chinese transport helicopter and (I presume because I've not got any kills) I end up getting kicked for having a -1 next to my name for a minute or two.

To be honest, it shouldn't be treated as a team kill as long as the mine has been there for more than 30 seconds, or thereabouts. If it has, then the victim has only himself to blame.
