for someone out there, its a terrible thing.

maybe ive not explained my self clearly then. im not saying its not a big deal in general. i can understand that it will affect who ever is close to him i.e. his parents.
i understand that it doesnt help for people to shout "jump". but this is where i come to a problem, because they didnt break a law i have a hard time determining how bad what they did actually is. though i can understand your view on the whys, hows etc

This is the basic problem of the judicial (sp?) system. It is no longer there to just protect the public, it has instead turned into a bastardised child of multiple religious beleifs with only a small sentiment of simple right and wrong. I agree with you here that it is a relatively black and white scenario whereby people shouldn't of shouted it...simple. The difference being is that I don't care what the law says anymore...they should be locked up. What they did was wrong and they should be punished but the current laws wouldn't support that.

Euthenasia/suicide are prime examples. The law is there to protect the public and yet if someone wants to die, they aren't allowed. Why? It's not like they're going to harm anyone but themselves so why has this deep religious beleif which has been imposed on society carried on to this day and age? The law tries to make things black and white but that's just the problem...it's gone so far these days that murderers can get off on technicalities whereas innocent people can get put in prison for essentially doing nothing wrong.

I apologise that I've brought up religion again...please don't respond to that part else this is just going to get closed. All I'm trying to say is that it's the laws fault that things like this will go unpunished where it's blatently an assistance to murder, pushing someone close to the edge (If you'll ignore the pun ;)).

edit (again): I know it'd hurt his family so it's not a victimless crime but I still see my choice of life as my right...

Now talking about 6 orgasms in one hour is fine, but how in the name of god do you derail something like that into a suicide discussion?

...you people.

thats what i thought kirennia. apparently if i read it right, in germany something like this would be classed as an encouragement. i dont know why its not controlled here, i think it should be though.

Actually I'm not sure how much it has to do with "protecting the sanctity of life" as it were as much as protecting vulnerable people from exploitation. It's a very tricky subject.

Wow you guys really know how to turn a light hearted orgasm discussion into something erm* struggles*... else.

I have studied sociology and philosophy and spent years over analysing the human condition, working on self development blah blah and Tris, Nath and Scouse you have me completely lost for words.

congratulations, I think.

Given the recent discussion, I'm not sure I like being lumped together with tris. Care to elucidate, russell?

Im not talking about your opposing/aligned view points.

I am just struck by the certainty of the 'this is me, this is what I believe, this is how it is, end off ' attitude that comes from the posts. To be so adamant of your attitudes, values and beliefs, so set in concrete, shocks me a little I guess.

I think I wish I could be so certain about life, but I also think it is dangerous to shut your mind.

I agree, but also I think it's human nature to form beliefs based on ones observations of the world. I wouldn't consider my mind to be shut, per se, but I would say the beliefs I hold are fairly strong. I don't consider them to be irrational though - they're all from experience.

scouse: im glad you agree with me that the whole discussion was already determined. its ncie to see im getting through to you. on the other point re: society. personally for me its not a recent thing, i have been the same since i was younger. and i can tell you back then i wasnt sat in watching the news or looking at rotten.com so i dont think its something ive learnt.

Yep. I agree, it's something you haven't learned because lack of empathy doesn't stop you getting as far as you like nowadays... :)

Of course you dont consider them to be irrational.. they are your beliefs, which are formed by nature, nurture and first hand experience. As everybodies are.

And I guess they could be likened to religious beliefs in that respect. However, in my case they're flexible and adaptable. If I see things that challenge my beliefs I'll adapt them.

I get the impression (and correct me if I'm wrong) that you're suggesting that one should approach the world from a completely neutral standpoint, never forming opinions on the way things work based on experiences. That seems a little unrealistic really.

my view is not set in concrete. i believe in determinism and i have openly said if someone can proove to me free will exists then i would be more than happy to change the way i view the universe. i work on facts and if facts dont exist i make an opinnion on whats available for me. i look at situations black and white because in the end when you take it to basics thats all things usually are. good or bad/right or wrong etc

maybe ive misunderstood what youre saying though.

Not at all. I respect opinions greatly and find wishy washy people irritating. I just felt you guys were so so so black and white and 'set', and that concerns me.
I admire people who can be open minded enough to really see stuff, seek to understand and then re-evaluate accordingly.

Well, as I say I'd like to think that my opinions are flexible. I guess it's just that this is a subject I've given a substantial amount of thought to which may give the impression that I see it as black and white.

if someone is standing there talking for 2 hours, the chances are they don't really want to do it anyway and it's just an attention seeking thing. Having people shout like that would just make them feel like they can't back down else fear embarressment... or maybe they just ended up proving a point and jumping anyway.

Lol they killed themselves because they were embarressed people would see them as a quitter or something?

For me there are two types of people who end up in suicide situations.

I think the majority of people attempt suicide with no actual intention of going through with it. It's a rock bottom cry for help/attention. These people make phone calls or take pills then tell someone.

The second group, people who genuinly want to top themselves choose a quick surefire way of doing it. Shotgun in the mouth type of suicide.

I guess this person was in the first type. I knew a guy once who took a load of pills, made the call but nobody believed him and he ended up dead. Don't think he really meant it tbh. I'm thinking this person was feeling rock bottom got up there expecting some attention and help and got pushed a bit further by the crowd. They made him a type 2 and that was that.

I have to say, I tend to save my sympathy for those who deserve it. I don't feel much (or any) for the guy who jumped, mainly because I've never really bought into the whole "cry for help" idea, its too much of a drama queen thing for me (I had a colleague who's daughter did it half a dozen times and I saw how it destroyed him); if you're going to top yourself, just do it. I can't even bring myself to care much about the people who shouted "jump"; he decided he wanted an audience and they called him on it.

I do feel sympathy for his family however. They're the poor sods who have to live with his actions.

In a male, a japs-eye test may well provoke an orgasm. In a female, god knows!
