PC Master Race 4k monitor, or widescreen?

We've been round this before, but I might be looking to pickup a new monitor soon. What are the thoughts on 4k and widescreen? I'm tilting in favour of widescreen because the pixel height of my current monitor (a 27" NEC) 1440 which is enough but I would like it to be wider (primary use is graphics / Lightroom, games are secondary) so that I can expand all the tools in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Assuming you mean ultra widescreen (good luck finding a 4:3 4k monitor) then YES DO IT NOW. I went from a 1920x1200 Dell 2405FPW to a 3440x1440 Samsung S34E790C and I absolutely adore it. The extra width is great for productivity - you can split it in half and you get 2 1720x1440 monitors so you can run 2 apps side by side and still have loads of space in each one or one mahoosive full screen window with all the toolbars and panels you could possibly need - something like Vegas really becomes so much more usable with all the extra desktop real estate - 1:1 1080p previews and then a fecking huge timeline and track panel along the bottom. If you already have a 27" 1440p then these 34" ultrawides are near enough exactly the same height (for reference), you just get that extra bit either side. Games are also mega-wicked.

Super! Yes my original post reads a bit bad - meant a 4k 16:9 or a "3440x1440" 21:9 widescreen.

Sounds like it's the widescreen, I've just watched a couple of vids online and whilst 4k is lovely for gaming, everything gets really small for Photoshop.

1440p for the extra smoothness with 70hz frequency in games, i have been told it really does make a difference in smoothness. Apparently the biggest difference is from 1080p to 1440p, i.e. 1,920 x 1,080 to 2,560 x 1,440. The power needed from that upgrade in computing power is quiet a step up if you want to run things 70 fps smoothly.

Running 60 fps smoothly in the monster res xxxx x 2160 does require two 980 ti's. A computellulor nerd friend of mine has such a screen and a real monster computer with two 980 ti's and runs that monster res with relative ease. Then he also has a 1440p screen he uses for fps gaming and such. Comes down to how many monies you can fork out i suppose.

Yeah, might be a good plan. I've heard there will be quiet a few new tech-releases this year. Also, how many times did i use the word smooth?
