WOOHOO!!! 12280 !!

Basically put the chip and mobo in, Windows XP blue screen on first boot, I repaired that and ran this straight after. So I reckon there's a lot of room for improvement once I've reformated. :)

My latest result with all standard clocks 12137

Its suprising how much difference changing motherboards has been, first I got 10500 using an Asus A7S, then I got 11500 with an Asus A7V and now its 12000+ with an Abit AT7-MAX2. (all with standard clock speeds)

Next time I dont think I'l be as tight when buying a mobo :)

First two are alright but the last one, HDD Score, seems to be very wrong indeed mate.

As for PC Mark, the HD tests are hardly ever consistent.

I've updated my spec and get the following:

Athlon 2400+ (2 GHz) at 2700+ (2.15 GHz).
Geforce4 Ti4400 at Ti4600 speeds (300 MHz core clock, 650 MHz mem clock)
ASus A7V-266 with 512 meg PC2100 RAM
Detonators 41.09

10708 - 3DMark2001 SE (default, 1024*768*32, no FSAA)

I thought i'd get more than that - i was looking at getting 12000 odd? Is my result correct for the spec?

I should have thought you would get more than that BG, I get 10050 with XP2000 ti4200, but 512 2700 ddr.

Danger, my cpu is oc'd to 1.79mhz. Thats putting the fsb upto 143 and the vcore at 1.8. :)

hmm,

My thoughts exactly Willier - i suspected that even though i'm at 2700+ speeds, it's only a 266 FSB (268 to be precise) and the mobo isn't exactly new.

I had a look into this whole FSB/memory issue and it seems that the spped of the memory makes no difference when you get passed 266 fsb if you're using an Athlon XP at 266.

the Athlon can only give about 2 gigs of memory bandwidth so you can have memory running at 400mhz and it will make little or no difference to your 266 mhz system.

That's why there's the hype over the 333 fsb athlon XP's coming out cos they can use PC2700 memory. Any more is overkill TBH.

If you're over clocking the FSB on your chip then the faster memory may help but it's really not worth going any faster with an Athlon.

The p4's rule in that respect cos they've got mem bandwidth to burn.

I bought a stick of 512 mb PC2700 memory for two reasons....

When I get a 333fsb chip it will be running optimally and when I upgrade the memory it will then be able to do dual DDR at the optimal speed. Simple really.

I hope that made sense!!

so what if what you say is true, why are my 3dmarks lower than i expect?

anyone have any suggestions? drivers? mobo?

Might explain my score on 3D MArks then as I have a 333 FSB, 2700 memory and an athlon XP thoroughbred cpu. Ta

Big G,

I noticed that my 3dmark scores had dropped a little over time with installing crap going on in the back ground etc. I installed the latest dets and tweaked things a little and my scores are now in excess of 12000 on an Athlon 2400+ XP and a Ti4600 with PC2700 memory (running at 166 but of course the CPU can't facilitate this bandwidth cos it's only running at 133/266)
