3D Studio Max/Direct X Conversion

Is there anyone out there who knows how to convert .max files into a .x file with .bmp?

Have been trying to make a mesh from 3dsm compatible for direct x programming from it but have had no luck after trying a few programs which give you the run around. So does anyone have a tried and tested standalone program for doing this? One which doesn't require additional code to be entered into the program as well otherwise it kind of defeats the whole point of it :)

Tried blender as well but to be honest, I'd much rather get used to using 3dsm instead as I can see it being more useful for the future.

there was thread some time ago in xna dev forums. most peeps i belive use milkshape or blender or maya if they are lucky for that. importing and exporting features of 3dsmax have always been piss poor and there is no real solid solution for your problem
