Probably not i once had the 3 red lights but turned out i had not plugged the power cord into the power brick correctly.

But have the receipt handy just in case eh?

If your 1 year warranty's about to run out, then I suggest you get it replaced sooner rather than later. The Ring of Death was actually mentioned on Watchdog the other week.

Funny really, lots of people moaning that their 360's blew up just after their warranties ran out and that Microsoft then made them pay for the repairs. Of course, it had nothing to do with the fact that Gears of War came out the same week and they'd no doubt been playing it 24/7 for a week and worn the poor thing out ;)

I think one of the actual quotes was
Some tit on Watchdog said:
My DVD player cost be £30 and I've had it 5 years and it's never broken. But my XBox 360 has broke in under 2 years

Hmm, yes, but can you £30 DVD player play Gears of War.

Numpty!!

my friends blew about a week back, he got it on release so it was past its 1yr warrenty. He called xbox, explained what happened game em the serial number, they sent him a box to send it to them in and he had a new one back by the end of the week.

I think microsoft know the first few batch's are faulty, and will just replace them when they go.

Mine hasnt yet, thankfully:m00:

I had a similar issue but it was all 4 quadrants that went red. If it happens again get it sent to ms. They took about 5 days to take mine and send me another.

I would have done the same but I lost my receipt and I never lose receipts.

Depends who you bought it from. Most will be fine if it has only been a couple of months. Any more and I think you might struggle. Especially gamestation who are swines with returns.

Mines Just gone, got to phone up MS today to arrange for it to be sorted out, happened right in the middle of watching a DVD.

Mine was one of the first ones, so it looks like I may not have to pay as the 1yr warranty has run out.

Just got off the phone from Microsoft and they are repairing my 360 FOC, and getting UPS to collect the 360 from me, they said they would get it back within 15 working days. Though after some digging I found out that any 360 built before January 1st 2006 will be repaired/replaced FOC by microsoft, so there must have been a ton of problems with the first batch out the factory and it was only a matter of time before mine died, it is a bit worrying but at least they aren't making ppl pay for the repair's though.

So in the meantime its back to full on PC/Wii gaming (kinda wish Ninty wud release a DVD channel or something), because its a pain watching DVD's on my 15" monitor as opposed to my 24" TV, plus the fact my monitor is an old TFT monitor so when you look at it at an angle the screen gets very dark or you can't see anything on the screen.

Actually my early one has been fine. People seem to be having problems with the later ones.

not so. electrical goods should have a reasonable lifespan of 6 years under the sale of goods act. if you can prove the fault is inherent and not by your wrong doing then they have to sort it out within a reasonable time.

your contract is with the shop also, not with microsoft.

what if i don't have the original receipt?

you dont actually need a receipt for proof of purchase.
for a start the person selling is not legally forced to give you one so its daft for them to demand to get one back off you.

you do need some kind of proof though, a bank statement with the date on, the counterfoil off a cheque, things like that.

also if you bought your goods on credit card, you may have extra rights.

Had my 360 come back yesterday, yay!

they sent me a new one instead of repairing the machine, was a little worried about my arcade games not working on this machine but after about half a hour connected to Live the arcade games were working as full games again and not trials, all my downloaded content for oblivion etc still works fine.

Also the DVD drive seems to produce much less noise than my old 360.

As I broke up with my GF on tuesday night seeing my 360 yesterday helped ease the pain. (it was as if it knew it would be needed lol)

The best part of this, is that I didn't have to spend a single penny.

My xbox was replaced within the week too. Not sure if it was new or refurbed. I suspect the latter. Didn't notice any difference in the noise from the fan or the DVD drive.

I just had the rings of death. Could just be the Av cable, but I cannot see how it could get damaged when it has not moved.

I am going to phone them, but I expect them to give me a returns number and just let me exchange it at work. I see no reason to send it off to them for repair when it is faulty within the first year when I know that work will replace it for me, just got to get MS to transfer my 3 year cover to the new serial number.
