Was considering building one, anyone know roughly what sort of specs would be acceptable for 720p-1080p streaming? and could possibly recommend a capture card? idea is to use the 2nd PC to Stream off the main PC

What I had my eye on

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-327-AM
AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor - £99

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-136-KS
8 Gig DDR3/1600mhz Kingstom ram £53

went for AMD because an Intel CPU just for a stream PC would have cost almost 2x what the AMD one would have, kingston ram is cheap and works.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Avermedia-Live-Gamer-Hd-C985/dp/B007SRYAPO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377020085&sr=8-4&keywords=avermedia capture hd
Avermedia Live Gamer Hd C985 - Video Input Adapter - Pci Express - £149

Capture card I had my eye on, would love a cheaper one

-

Rest of the system I'm told isn't really that important, the CPU/Ram + Capture card are the main factors, I do have a spare GTX 460 + 1TB 7200RPM hd I can throw into it.

Streaming what ?

I just use a nas to stream music movies etc. a lot less power hungry than a self built PC.

Battlefield 4 / next gen MMO's, battlefield 3 already chews up a PC pretty hard if you stream it at high quality while running it at high quality.

ah you want to stream your game .. surely your gaming pc will still be doing the work of streaming to your new pc build so it wont save much just the actual sending down the line not the streaming part .. that would be the part that takes up most of the processing ?

The sending it down the wire part wouldnt be much work i would have thought.

It was always the recording in daoc that slowed shit down not the sending of a file or downloading as long as it wasnt on the same hard disk

You'd think so yea, most games I can stream from my main PC at max graphics and quality, Battlefield 3 on the other hand takes a massive drop in FPS when you stream on good quality.

I'd go for an Intel, there's a reason they more expensive than AMD's, because they smoke em :(

They do but I don't fancy paying intel prices just for the sake of a PC with the sole purpose of streaming, its like £150-180 for a budget up to date intel quad core atm.

Why not go to nova tech or somewhere and get a barebones system for little and put yr gfx card in there with some disk.

Though looking at that one I've just linked, if I were to buy the raw parts from Overclockers.co.uk it would still be cheaper to build it myself.

You really dont need much. Especially if you are going for a hardware capture card. It does 99% of the heavy lifting and uses minimal if any CPU time. Then its just xsplit to package it. So really you need an old 2.6GHz cpu, couple gig of ram and an onboard gfx card as its all CPU calculations at that point.

Unless you want to do something shiny like realtime effects or green screening, then you need something a bit more beefy.

Persoanlly, i create a raw stream from my capture card which goes to a 4 year old mac mini, running adobe media encoder which streams it out, as i dont do anything shiny with it before it goes out its all i need and the 2.2ghz cpu in the mini is barely touched by it all. its also onyl got 2gb of ram :p The most intensive thing it does is creating the 5 min buffer ;)

Oh really? not going to use a greenscreen or anything no, just streaming at 720p-1080p and voice chatting mainly. I do have an old PC lurking around, not sure if that would be good enough, specs on it are:

E8400 Intel Dual Core (clocks at about 3.0ghz)
4gig of ram (can easily stick some more in)

Give it a go and see if it handles what you need :)

If so they same yourself some monies, do get a hardware capture card tho. But remember to order DVI splitter and a headphones splitter. Oh and a 3.5mm male to male...donno if mine came with one.....

Depending on how you want it setup you may need some virtual audio cables aswell. Then, on your gaming pc, you can combine what-u-hear with your mic input, tie it to a virtual audio cable and then tie that to a secondary audio out on your pc (if you have one?) Then plug that into the capture card. Else you'll have to do some loop back and hear yourself.

Because he has a shit load of free time 24 hours a day 7 days a week to be exact.

I'd try Twitch if I had that amount of time.

I'm confused about why you'd want to do this. Genuinely.

Watching other people play games is becoming quite popular. For some reason that totally escapes me. But both Sony and Microsoft are getting quite hard about it being included on their next gen consoles so we get to see 12 years olds smack talk each other all day. Each to their own and all that!

But yeah, with the capture card you shouldn't need much of a PC because most of the work would be done by the card...maybe a decent amount of RAM and HD space too?

Oh I can see why you might want to stream a game on occasion, I just can't quite understand why you'd want to invest extra money to do so. Like you said, each to their own.

Remember that guy that was disabled from the waste down and streamed over Twitch? Then got up while his stream was still on? Before that he made 10s of thousands of dollars from people donating over Twitch because they thought he was disabled.

I'm not saying in anyway that's what bloodomen intends to do AT ALL all I'm saying is there is money to be made on Twitch.

Because I have little else to do while stuck in the house, I spend time with my family and I take Fluoxetine daily, beyond that I have no real life at the moment because cognitive behavior therapy wasn't doing anything for me and beyond that there isn't much else they can do. I play games 6-12 hours a day most days, may as well share it on the net in hopes of 400 average viewers on twitch (which is unlikely unless you play high end gaming/popular games) you can get a twitch partnership then and get paid for streaming/running ads basically, not an awful lot but given the unemployment and inability of going outside every little helps.

And contrary to popular belief on Freddyshouse I don't sit and play games 16 hours a day 7 days a week, a large chunk of my time goes into talking to friends/family (unfortunately due to distance none of my family come to visit (or very rarely talking months/years between visits) via skype/facebook/forums/trying to maintain some form of contact with the outside. It's extremely rare I'll pull an all nighter with games these days, just don't have the drive for it most of the time.

Ah, so I'm not the only Freddy in that particular boat. I've been on all sorts of SRIs (including fluoxetine and citalopram), along with stabs at anti-psychotics and even an anti-convulsant all in an attempt to treat my Social/Generalised Anxiety and Avoidant Personality Disorder. Trying to get any actual therapy out of the NHS is like getting the proverbial blood out of a stone (modulo postcode lottery of some NHS trusts doing a better job of it than others).

So, yes, if anyone was still wondering, this is why I end up with so much time to game and hang around on the net in general as just the thought of starting to look for work sends me spiralling down into panic, let alone actually coping with a job.

Aye it's horrible, I've got the fucked up sleeping patterns as well which I'm told is common in anxiety sufferers, basically having totally random sleeping patterns.

If you're going to use a live gamer pro, a midspec i5 would be absolutely fine.

Yes, either is fine if you're offloading the encoding onto the LGP.

I am often awake till four of five in the morning. Not through choice. I have a job but a flexible one that let's me work from home a lot.

There are more people than you realise that are in similar positions.
