They fucked it up in EU though they only make it available to EU citizens so non-EU residents still need old school take a pic of your passport type of nonsense

Edit: or rather they only mandate that govts have to make it available to EU citizens, so Germany for example will not let anyone not from EU use it. Nordics have had eID for 20 years and it’s available to anyone who lives here (and it’s needed to live tbh)

From 2027 it's all changing and opening it to residents is part of that; in fact if you need for use cases like right to work permission it's the only way it can work.

How what works?

Gwan. I love an ID&V convo. Edumacate me :)

The credentials are held on your device and you share what you need to share and nothing more, so PII isn't passed just binary approved/not approved. The government control is on giving an individual rights and permissions in the first place, but they can do that anyway.

Sounds like a zero knowledge proof system at work - where you have the ability to prove whatever you're trying to prove without revealing any actual information.

Yeah, but if they mandate that you need to give them this info to access <insert service here> you're still ponying it over.

But then, up-front at least they don't have a centralised database of your PII.

Out of interest do you hold a UK issued passport? Isn't that a massive Government held ID database? Yes you can opt in or out when it comes to applying for a 1st ever passport or a renewal but if the latter I bet they never remove expired passport data. Oh and it holds a certified picture of you.

Not seeing the uproar apart from the missing thing which is you are not required to carry this form of ID on you at all times.

You're not necessarily giving up anything if they ask a binary yes/no question and you can answer it without giving any details. Like "are you over 18?" - by answering yes you're not saying how old you are. I mean I guess you're giving up the fact that you're over 18 but you're not giving away as much info as if you'd showed a physical piece of ID.

Tried for criminal damage, but sentenced as terrorists.

A jury would never have found them guilty if the trial was a terrorism trial.

It's a terrifying national disgrace.

This is the sort of shit that will happen all the time without jury trials.

So, you have zero concerns how we repeatedly arrest multiple British citizens under abusive and oppressive terrorism legislation @Gwadien?

Sure, I believe in freedom of speech.

I just don't believe in freedom of consequences or freedom to instigate others to commit crimes against minorities and sit in my ivory castle.

Nice dodge.

Do you believe in prosecuting people under terrorism laws when there's no suspicion of terrorism offences? In this specific case when a judge has previously ruled that arresting this particular citizen under terrorism laws wasn't lawful. But more widely, that this is happening repeatedly and to multiple people.

i.e. - do you support the state unlawfuly, repeatedly, using terrorist legislation to arrest and lock people up who clearly aren't terrorists. That the state does this to oppress certain political beliefs.

He's a far-right thug with a long criminal record who's just been to Russia, a country we're practically at war with, and I have absolutely no problem with the authorities investigating his electronic devices to see what he's been up to.

Fuck Russia, and fuck him.

Again @Tom. Not the question at all.

I agree that he's a total cunt. I said that in the first post. And you, @Gwadien and @caLLous all know I did.

But that's not the problem here is it. The actions of Mr Yaxley-Lennon and the trials and tribulations of poor "Tommy" pale into comparison against the thing I'm talking about here. All of which you're steadfastly refusing to talk about.

Best case scenario here is that you're all oblivious to this behaviour. i.e. people not being principled or analytical — the three of you are acting out a well‑documented human bias where tribal hostility, moral exclusion, and the brain’s craving for simple villain‑stories override your ability to recognise systemic abuse, so you fixate on the man because your psychology makes the machinery of oppression invisible to you.

Worst case scenario: You're all secret facists :)

Anyway, it's one of Yaxley Lennon's jobs.

Do/say something stupid and probably illegal.
Get arrested.
Set up a crowd fundraiser.
Get released without charge.
Go on holibobs, again. And do coke, lots of coke.

And again (and for the last time): it's not about him.
You don't know what he has said/done yet.

If he has been whipping up the mob again, and that has resulted in damage to people's homes and cars (as per the recent riots in Southampton and Belfast) then fuck him. I would rather my tax money didn't go clearing up because some random simpleton through a bin through/at it, but public buildings are often legitimate target. Setting fire to someone's car, because of police fuckwittery is not exactly helpful.

If he has said "kier Starmer is a wanker" then I might agree with you.

I mean, I really am trying not to reply, but people really can't read the "it's not about him" line and have it sink into their head can they?

It's actually amazing. People round here aren't knuckle-draggers. We're not simpletons.

You seem to have your knickers in a twist over the laws under which Tommy ThreeFeet has been arrested. we do not know the ins and outs of it, ergo

You don't know what he has said/done yet.

edit...And yes, as far as I am concerned, setting fire to peoples houses and cars is domestic terrorism, designed to, you know, spread terror. Calling for it, and (probably) being behind it all in the first place, is worthy of a big ol'prison sentence, please and thank-you.

Here you go, more ID required to "just see shit on the internet"

Back door, won't work anyway. Shit parents will just set accounts up for their little "wouldn't hurt anyone" "Lickle Angles" anyway, and the responsible adults/kids...well fuck them, in fact, fuck them(us) twice, because we have to pay to fail at policing the fucking thing.

Edit. In fact, bollocks, I am writing to my MP...again.

Fucking hell this place is getting more like a fucking nanny state. We shall be known as The United Korea Wannabee and rename our pitiful wall to Hadrian's Firewall.
