Now, have to admit im quite interested in buying this phone, its the dogs bollocks apparently, having anything you need in a phone plus more. I checked up on it, and compared it against my Motorola v600.

The results where very very nice, they where either the same, or better.

Here is the website with the results (Tried adding it like a table, didnt work :/)
clicky

The thing that got me interested was the fact that it plays MP3's (whoopydoo, so does the v600 i hear you say!) but the k700 has a 32mb chip, unlike the v600 which is only 5mb. Heard somewhere also that you can "upgrade" that chip to anything bigger, which is nice to know.

The other thing was the Radio, v600 doesnt have that, now, yes indeed i wont really be using the Radio much, but its a nice inclusion if you have gone out for a walk.

The only thing i dont like about the k700, is its a clamshell, and a SE clamshell. The last time i had a SE Clammy it was a T610, and the amount of trouble it got me into while working at my old place (I kept it in my pocket - The keylock would always turn itself off and dial numbers in my pocket - 112/999 anyone? :/).

But now at o2, ive adopted the way of a carry case, so that removes THAT problem anyway...

The 6230 also plays MP3 and uses MMC, which means 512Mb/1Gb is the max capacity, depending on the media you buy. It's also already on the market.

The 6230 has one of these too.

Heh, you work for O2, right mate?

If so, I'm wondering why you think the K700i or T610 are clamshell phones... ? Neither of them are.

To date, the only clamshell design handsets from SE are the Z600, Z1010 and Z200 - it's the Z which denotes a clamshell chassis.

Clamshell means two equal lengths of body joined by a hinge, folding like a shellfish (i.e. clam) - the K700i and T610 aren't folding handsets.

Personally, I reckon if you're after MP3 and Radio functionality, the 6230 is the daddy - the K700's main points are the true VGA camera and speedy processor - check the JBenchmark scorings here to see a quick comparison. It's #2 in java-capable consumer handsets, #1 is the 6230.

SE have 2 as yet unannounced clamshells on their way later this year with similar features to the K700 and P900 - if you're really after something along those lines I'd wait for one of those, otherwise give the 6230 a squiz.

Of course, if you're happy to wait then the phone to have will be the 6260, also from Nokia - check it out here. Tilting screen, VGA camera side-mounted, HTML browser and all the other widgets seen in the 6230 crammed into a pretty sexy clamshell design. Lubbleh.

Shit i meant block, i was looking at the website and kept gettin the phones i was comparing mixed up *grrr*

The 6230 was also a choice... but its a Nokia.. heh, aint used a Nokia in about 2yrs.

I personally dont play games on the phones, think its a bit of a waste specially if youre outside it could be a pain seeing the screen. Just relised the other 2 problems i had with the SE T610, was the screen itself, it was forever gettin smudged, and it was hard to see outside.

It looks as if you could beat someone to death with it, which is quite handy if someone tries to steal it. Although fuck knows why they'd want to.

Fuck the K700, the next phone I'll buy is the S700. Until then, my T610 does the job just fine.

Afaik the K700's memory is not expandable/upgradable, as they're saving this feature for the S700.

The 6230 is a nice phone, and, if it weren't for the usual shit QC from Nokia, I would be tempted to get one.

My friend who works for Orange reckons the return rate for the first batch of 6230s they got from Nokia is about 80%, due to this (and other) faults.

Also, as a side note, I would probably choose the K700 over the 6230 simply on the screen. Nokia need to learn that it is within the realms of physics to produce a screen bigger than 128x128 on a small candy bar style phone, they couldn't even manage this on a clamshell device (even when the design of such handsets give much more room to fit a larger screen in).

Well, I've had several Nokias, and I can only praise them for their reliability and ease of operation. I only have a Moto now because of the unbeatable tariff from H3G.

I must admit that most nokias without colour screens are bulletproof, pretty much anything up to the 8310 is, but over the last two years and since the introduction of phones like the 7210 (recalled pretty much as soon as released), 5100 (all have problems with the power button, to the point where once you've turned some off they cannot be turned back on again), 3510i (list of problems with these is endless), 6600 (lots of problems with the phone hanging, resetting itself and generally needing the software re-installing) et al, things have taken a turn for the worse.

but considering you can get a C500 for free now, there's very little competition ;)

I'd go with the K700i or if you really want expandable memory wait for the S700 with its 1Mpixel camera loveliness.

Depends what you want Xav. I "chose" the K700i over the C500 :), you see its all down to personal choice and the k700i is excellent and dosnt look ooogly like the C500 :) in my opinion of course.

Bloke at work has a k700i. It is sex. Such a good phone, seriously making me doubt wether its worth getting the motorola v3 next, or going back to SE.

*raises eyebrow*

I've really gone off the K700i - it's just plasticy and 'orrible... I was initially impressed by the camera but my C500 & 7610 are leaps and bounds ahead of it, and the java isn't as fast as the 6230... so what's the big fuss?

From what I can see it's got less features than the HTC, plus no memory card slot and that nasty plastic port cover. Teh suck imho.

Again Xavier that is in "YOUR" opinion. Some people dont care if the Java is a tad slower (like they would notice). To begin with I thought the keys were a little plasticy but they have grown on me.

The K700i is small / compact and does exactly what I want it to do. The 7610 and the 7600 remind me of what Renault have done with the Clio and the Megane, taken a perfectly good car and fucked it up with some unecessary phreaky styling.

However if that is your thing Xav "nice choice". The majority of people here are grown-ups and are able to make their own technical choices when it comes to phones / pdas or other gadgets and if they do need help they ask. Please stop trying to force your choices onto other people, because at the end of the day that is exactly what alot of technology boils down to, personal choice.

Yes, but Nokia's UI sucks a lot of dick. As do most of their phones nowadays for that matter.

All my opinion of course.

I always found that the Sony Ericsson UI sucked more dick (case in point: T68i, my previous phone). Never had any great problems with the Nokia UI... well, other than a lack of customisation in what the different buttons will do (e.g. Left = text, Right = calendar, Down = contacts, Up = camera).

My only real liking the 7610 is its camera and what nokia have done to tweak Series 60 ahead of Series 60 which is due on their new 76XX, 72XX and 62XX handsets... My current fave and phone of choice is the HTC C500 which kicks the K700i all over the shop in terms of feature and in terms of size and styling is also a million miles in front of the SE...

Edit... I have a K700i too, as also mentioned elsewhere in this thread... I just don't use it as I think it's pretty damn fugly. I wouldn't bother sounding so worked up about it either unless it was YOU who suggested that fscking awful 'half camera, half tacky plastic gobshite' housing SonyEricsson went for? Heh. ;)

Heh, have you seen the 6230? One of the menu modes is basically SE's T68/T610 interface... I mean a complete carbon copy. Why SonyEricsson didn't bother to copyright their nav - which they probably could have done considering how closely they've tied it to the keypad layout, I don't know. :(

Agreed, Nokia are only sticking with 128x128 pixel displays because of stupid constraints within their consumer 'Series 40' firmwares. Wait til the handsets due before chrimbo arrive, some are running a heavily tweaked version of S40 with similar res to the C500, and the other 'decent' ones are S60SE :)

Incidentally, has anyone played with the Z1010 yet? Methinks SonyEricsson are in the shits unless they get a decent 3G mobile announced shortly. All four UK networks will have 3G voice products before christmas - I wouldn't carry one of these things around if they paid me... it's bigger than a Z600 and does NOTHING new AT ALL.

Got my K700i a couple of months ago, loved it at first (the UI is fine and an improvement over my previous Z600), but I'm starting to go off it, mainly because the build quality is iffy. It looks well made (the alloy effect and all that) but the key pad and joystick are already showing signs of serious wear, making texting a bit of pain in the arse. I certainly don't see it lasting a year.
