Though, if he really loved the girl enough to buy a 2k ring and marry her, one tugjob for the boss isn't something to just drop everything.

Different people have different views on such a subject.

Giving your boss a bit of mouth in the toilets is disgusting and it'd take a heck of a lot for me to forgive such a thing.

It's an abuse of trust, respect yada yada.

have you read any of shakespear's so called comedys? what was funny once no longer is, however in cases like this where the age gap is considerably less than say 100 years, then yes i tend to agree :)

heard one v similar to this.. yes its old.. but it starts as a pure prank call.. when a hubby trys prank his wife...
and gets radio to tell them he been sacked from work for shagging his secretary...
and then it all goes horribly wrong when she says...

well when he gets hhome his bags will bein the drive .. and it makes me feel a lot better cos i been screwing his brother for the last 3 years..

and /vom when the first thing she asked was how much the ring was worth tbh, how much is it worth?? wtf why ask that? jeesus me and b2 are planning on being engaged and i want a sodding £20- ring and to spend the rest on a wii for us both to enjoy but he wont do it because he said its the only time any of us has or will ever get engeged so hes gotta do it right.. even so jeesus if he spent that much (2000£) on a ring i'd kick his arse, why dont people realise its the sentiment behind something not the price tag :(

rofl none of us are rich and its hard to explain and i used to feel that way too "pfft married?? me?? balls its just a silly ritual and a bit of paper, who needs it?!"

well actually i do, i think because ive never had anyone i actually wanted to be bonded with and its the thing that it is a formal, recognised ritual that links two people. I wouldnt expect everyone to do it, i wont try and make others see things my way, its just important to me is all and i think because i dont have any family or anything its something thats important to me to know im not alone i think

Just curious about your weird values. Ring doesn't matter what i costs 'cause it's "just a ring", but getting married shows how much the dude loves you.

no it doesnt show how much he loves me, you see people married everyday who dont love eachother (hence devorces 4 months later) and having a baby together doesnt mean you love eachother deeply either, shows like this dont make anything genuine or make them what theyre not, the girl on the radio was all excited about getting a ring and the first thing she asked was "how much was it?"

the fact that her bf was willing to marry her and make this commitment (which although many dont take it seriously these days, some people still do and marriage means life) didnt seem to touch her at all it was just that she'd have something sparkly to wear that got her going, whereas with me its the fact that someone would actually want to marry me and be willing to spend the rest of their life with me (me! of all people) would be the most special thing and the ring is just a token of the commitment, the commitment, promise whatever you call it is the most valuable thing, for me any hoo.

Do you need the symbolic promise, which can be at any time be anulled especially if getting married in vegas to a showgirl you just met drunk off your ass-ets....or would the same thing be achieved with "I'll spend the rest of my life with you", perhaps in a bit more pearled up words.

EDIT: I'm just curious by the way, not saying people shouldn't marry, just trying to figure out the "why's".

Unless I missed it, she never claimed it was "just a ring" though. She said it isn't the pricetag (monetary value), but the sentiment (symbolic value) which matters. So as both the £20 and the £2000 ring have the same symbolic value, the £1980 is better spent on something else, as it adds no value. Although for her boyfriend the two are connected, which I can understand to a certain extent.

its not about need :p, its about someone wanting to show their affection through a jesture.
When you buy your gf a gift you dont NEED to buy her one, but its still nice when you do
