If you have 2 rounds of sandwiches, how many slices of bread are involved?

how is it silly.

do you make toast and only have 1 slice? its not very filling is it :(

NO, YOU DO 2 SLICES!

the standard unit of toast is 2 slices. and the name for the unit is a "round".

hence - one round is 2 slices, because 2 slices is the standard unit.

It makes no bloody difference how hungry or lardy I am.

If I want 1 round(1 slice) then I will have just that.

If I want toast it's generally one slice with some kind of spread on, if it's a sandwich then it's two slices of bread with filler.

If it's a toasted sandwich then it's two slices of toasted bread with filler.

Xane's already mentioned equating rounds of sandwichs to drinks, whereby a round is a single unit for each person in the party, with rounds continuing until each person has had their fill and drop out. A round of sandwiches would then be a sandwich for each person, and my idea of a sandwich is two slices of bread with filler, whereas a piece of toast (or just 'toast' if you prefer) is just that, one slice of bread toasted, half a sandwich to me is simply a slice of bread folded over with filler, you could successfully argue then that that is a sandwich rather than half, but since I regard a sandwich to be two slice and not one, then to me it's half, and will always be half.

However we think of it, and I have no doubt whatsoever that what I mentioned earlier has already been said, a sandwich is just bread with filler, however many slices of bread you use is moot, but i'd expect 2 slices, not one ;)

Next question, why are sandwichs cut into triangles tastier than rectangles or squares? :p

I am so Northern and rough I don't cut my sandwiches at all. A fold maybe but never a cut.

Grrrrrr.

It's to do with crust distribution and the fact that the ratio of crust to main bit is more evenly spread out than with rectangle cut sarnies.

on the subject of sandwhiches..

imagine you are cruising down the motorway. its time for your 2 hour rest like every good motorist has. you walk into the overly priced service station shop and head for the sandwhiches. you go for one of those tripple packs that contains....

what would your ideal tripple pack be?

mine would be a -
ploughmans
all day breakfast
chicken mayo salad

although the 3rd choice im not totally set on. there is not much else to put in for variety. at least the chicken mayo salad will give you 3 things in one sandwhich triangle.

All service station sandwiches are chilled to nearly frozen, so that they are inedible, and then they charge you about five quid for one.*

*That's one round by the way, which is of course two slices :D

a pre-made sarnie? hmm, anything with bacon I suppose.

self made, I'd like a triple-decker BLT or a bacon and chicken fillet. mmm.

There's always one evil sandwich in those triple packs (like egg mayonnaise or something) so I tend to avoid and go for a tuna baguette or maybe cheese and pickle.

If I was making my own, the aforementioned cheese and pickle (mature cheddar and Branston of course) would be a safe bet, but because I like to experiment with my sandwich making, and because, after over ten years in London I'm now a southern shandy-drinking poof; my current favourite is Chorizo & Menchego cheese, with tomato and gherkin and French mustard, on wholegrain.

True northerners like myself who hack up a mix of coal and spittle every day from the backs of their throats, would laugh at such a preposterous statement!
