They just taste really bad and last about an hour.

The inhaler was better for me, felt more like a cig.

So ... how now brown Trem? What gives??

Day one for me - read the Allen Carr book and finished it last night, had 2 last marlboros in the pack and quit.

So far so good!:eek6:

I think I've actually managed to quit smoking through sheer laziness. I haven't been bothered to buy a pack of fags since a little after New Year.

Who needs willpower when being lazy will suffice? :)

I started again :(

Did ages then I got a bit worried about what was happening to my brain(throd is going to go ape shit). Samm doesn't smoke and hates it but she even begged me to start again. I had lost the last 12 years and had reverted back to before Samm and stuff, very fucking strange. I mean my feelings not that I actually time travelled.

I went the doctors the other day and explained how I want to not smoke and how I hate it but I was scared about what happened to me happening again. So she has prescribed me some brain pills which I have to take for a month before trying to quit again.

I am disgusted with myself and I haven't told throd that I am back on them again for the fear of cockney wrath :(

Get past the third day Jup and its so much easier then, whenever you want one don't think of it as that 1 think of it as the first in a line of many thousands after that first one.

Go on mate you can do it and so will I.

Sorry to hear that Trem - have you tried readingAllen Carr's book?

I must say that after just the first 5 chapters I could see where it was leading and how I could use that to make a serious stopping effort.

Key thing - you are not 'giving any thing up', but instead of that gaining a whole lot more (money, health etc).

We're conditioned to thinking we are 'giving up' by years of persuasive adverts and society and the government etc etc etc.

I recommend the book 100%. Read it and undrstand it and then when you finifh the book, finish your last cigarette.

I'm doing well so far :) I've even had 1.5 cans of lager without caving :D

I did read Allen Carr's book and it definitely helped, I felt like I was betraying him when I started again. Before my next attempt I will read it again. Its very clever tbh.

It sounds very scary Trem, but at least you can tell people you have to smoke for medical reasons and watch them get confused.

Yeah I can't have Zyban due to my brain issues. My doctor strongly advised me to stay away from it due to it making me die/kill myself.

Well i quit last July, used the lozenges for a while, and after a while i just completely lost interest in ciggies....

Then I went on holiday the week before last.. and for some stupid reason started smoking, and am back to square 1, cravings are back and everything. So back on the lozenges... sigh..

Anyway its good to stop, firstly you attract prettier girl as those who are still smoking by the time they are 25 have yellow teeth, skin like leather and a cough up all sorts of niceness....

oh, and chances of you dying a painful and horribly slow death are much lower too

Only keeping that as it took me several weeks (ok minutes) to animate the smoke being blown around... I'll get a new smoke free one sometime but I haven't changed into a vehement anti-smoker person overnight :)

I recently did 6 months without. Then i went to prague and the strip joints seemed to have signs on the doors that said 'entry 200 korunas' and if you dont smoke you are going home in a body bag.

Ok im also weak willed.

How you can give something up because you know its gonna kill you and then start up again is beyond me.

Exact same thing with the bloke I work with. Had "terminal" cancer. When it went he started smoking again.

He coughs up sh1t every morning. :(

I've never smoked a fag in my life apart from when my grandad forced me to when I was a child (he thought he was going to stop me taking up smoking - but I'd decided to not smoke when I was, like, seven).

However, I've been smoking a lot of weed for the past 3 years (new girlfriend (well, new then anyhow)). I get pangs for a joint as soon as I walk through my front door (and now, tbfh).

I know it's the tobacco talking. I've smoked so much I hardly get stoned any more and, frankly, I don't even want to get stoned every evening - your whole life starts to roll into one long forgetful mess...

So, come Sunday (and maybe bank holiday weekend) I'm dropping the weed for a while. At least until a camping weekend I've got planned for the end of July. :)

I tried this before and quickly realised I'm a smoker. It didn't really occur to me before. It's not the withdrawal - it's the total innocuousness of having "just one" that sucks you in.

"Just one" seems like the most trivial thing in the world - especially when you're used to smoking fucking hundreds of the things - but unfortunately that single, first one is possibly the worst thing ever. -Because it reinforces your (nicotine-addled) belief that it's not actually that bad...

Willpower is the only way forward. I believe that all these patches etc. do nothing but reinforce your own sense of helplessness, which in turn makes it easier to make excuses for yourself when you do start again.

"Oooooh! It must be *really* hard to give up smoking - just look at the whole industry built up around helping people quit! How am I possibly supposed to do this on my own???!!"

Unfortunately, smoking can only be beat one way. On your own.

Man, I'm sounding preachy today aren't I? :(

Aside from the fact that I wish I'd read the whole thread before posting my last post:

I had a cigarette tonight...well, it was a Marlboro light - does that count?

Yep. These "light" fags are a cynical attempt by the tobacco industry to make you feel better about it - whilst being just as damaging.

And apparently, just to add to the depression, "cutting down" doesn't really help you. It's like "topping up" the badness that you've got inside you... :(

The reason i don't smoke regularly has hit home again this morning, nothing worse than waking up with a mouth like an ashtray and tasting and smelling smoke. Yuk.

I'm still loving being a smoker to be honest with you. Cigarettes just taste so damn good, especially now I'm on roll-ups. Don't think I'll be quitting any time soon.
